Everybodys been saying that cow mats are good if u need rubber flooring on ur horses stable when on a budget (im in the same position) but you say they dont last long? why is this?

i've got cow mats (mayomats), they're lighter and thicker than rubber mats (therefore warmer), definitely softer. mine have been down a couple of years and are unmarked, as new. i don't think they're the cheaper option though, but they're worth it.

They were definitely cheaper when I was looking, sadly I ran out of money before I could actually buy them

Thats where I was going to buy them from

I managed to acquire mine from an ex dairy farm - had to go and unbolt them and clean the years of accumulated poo off them, but they were free!!!!

There is nothing wrong with cow mats - most dairy cows weigh a heck of a lot more than the average horse so they ae designed to take some long term wear. If you can get mats that are ridged - mine are almost 'treaded' like car tyres - much better as some of them can be slippy if they get wet. No rubber mats will last long if you have a horse that paws.

They are cheaper because they don't have the word 'horse' in their description and farmers tend to be a bit more canny with their cash than us horse addicts

those are the ones i have, i paid just under £50 each delivered. i think rubber mats are cheaper than this, tbh...

I think they are too, I was just hoping to go for these as they were cushioned and more comfortable

Whoops that is terribly anthropomorphic isnt it

Mine have been down for 12 years and are still as good as the ones I've just bought to do two new stables. All the horses are big 16.2 to 17.3 and one just weighed in at 720kg, so they have been well tested. I don't think they are a cheap option at over £1000 for two stables, but worth it.

Cow mats used to be made from materials that did not last long. farmers have now seen the benefits of cow matting and, being farmers, they are now made to a good standard that will last. I'm not sure they are much cheaper these days though.

I have them down in 3 stables (as does everyone who has ever mucked out for me or stayed at my yard!) They are the Mayo mats, 1st lot 11 years old and absolutely fine! Would never use heavy rubber mats for anything other then outside in gateways shelters etc.

I wouldn't say you are being too anthromorphic, try kneeling on them and you will see how much cushioning they give joints, they have been a god send with my laminitic hunter as even if the bed moved there was still some support to his feet.

Definitely recommended but notreally a cheap option - however very good value!!
