I don't know if they're the only ones, but my three have an obsession with eating and rolling in cow poo. I'm just wondering if its safe to eat, as they really do seem to like it? :S. I know its a vile habit, but they know they're not to eat it in 'my time' only when they're having a little free time while I'm setting up jumps and such, so it doesn't really matter in that sense, I just wouldn't like it to do them any harm?

Just to add: I keep them well wormed, so not really worried about that, unless the cows could pass on a worm other than roundworm?

Think most of the spaniel owners on here would say it comes with having a dog - the daft beasts seem to really love it! My girl loved it and it never seemed to put her up nor down. Just watch out for any upset tummies but I'm sure they'll be fine. :)

They are probably after the pre digested veg matter in there and the micro organisms it contains, mine will occasionally eat the horses especially if I have been slack in giving them their liquidised veg meal. If something better suited to plant eating has pre digested it for them they can get at it.

At the moment though milk poo from the foal is definitely the target!!! Lovely creatures.

The poo itself is not a problem, it's what the animal may have been treated for. Certain drugs can be very toxic to dogs, and are still present in dung. Horse wormers can be a real issue, mine is not allowed anywhere near horse poo for that very reason!

Ah but mine are on intelligent worming and I poo pick regularly. If they need it it's a panacur year, which I buy in bulk and use for the dogs as well!

But yes good point certain wormer's are not good at all, and cows will get similar drugs as well.

Since I have no idea what the cows are wormed with I'll just not allow them to eat it then, better safe than sorry :). I'm sure they won't mind a huge amount if I still let them roll in it

I think you should be careful, I see a woman out walking her retriever who has to be muzzled so she doesn't eat it, it was damaging her kidneys apparently
