I have found a thin crack running from the coronary band right to the edge of the of my horses hoof. Does anyone know what the reason could be for this happening? Is it down to my Ferrier or diet? My horses hoof does look quite long.

1) I would need to know if the crack went from the bottom up or the top down.
2) Did it start from a nail hole.

Most small cracks are often only in the surface horn and can be got rid of by making sure there is no weight bearing on the offending area
I am sure your farrier will have made sure the horn is not under stress from leverage due to a long toe etc.
Always make your vet aware of the crack.

If the horses hoof looks long then this could be part of the reason. My lad had a crack in his hoof wall when i got him and i was told it was too much sugar in his diet, Cut right back on the sugar and hey presto, the crack has almost grown out :)

The crack runs all the way from the band to the bottom of his hoof. There is a small sort of hole at the bottom, I think this is why.
I don’t want to change Ferrier however this isn’t the first time I haven’t been completely happy with the shoeing. However this is maybe the first time it’s affected my horse’s health :(
Thanks for all the tips guys!!

If your not happy change. Don't put up with bad shoeing/trimming, it's so important to get it done right.
