So somehow crashed heads with Stan when fetching him in tonight in the gale force winds. Really not sure how it happened but was suddenly aware of blood streaming down my face and people staring at me with looks of concern on thier faces. Turns out he had split my eyelid open, a gash about an inch long! Went to A and E. They were fab and glued it back together. Boy, am I gonna have a shiner tomorrow!!

You forget how hard horses heads are until they headbutt you! Glad you're alright though and didn't get concussed or anything:)

Yup! Had my hat on as well. Couple of inches higher would have been fine! As it was he got me full in the face...

Typical then! Maybe he's trying to injure you so he doesn't have to work ;)
I remember once when I was working at a trekking centre, my non-horsey friend came up to visit so I got her out helping by leading a pony for me on a leadrein ride (extra pair of hands that didn't cause the yard to run slowly;)) and as we were coming up to the railway crossing, the pony she had headbutted her and knocked her to the ground, I'd forgotten to warn her that the pony had a tendency to do that:o

Lol Emsarr. I did say to my friend that I think he's trying to finish me off! Its the 3rd injury I've had off him in 2013! Really hoping that things come in 3 s and thats me done now! :o

Oh dear! I have been headbutted hard before but never to the point of injury!

Same - was v suprised when realised I was actually bleeding. Nurse said it was like the cuts that boxers get, when the skin just splits due to the impact - lovely! Cos I always liked that boxer look!

Hi, hope you are ok. If it helps my son had a collision with the spring that supports the ramp on a horse trailer. he had 27 stitches to put his cheek and top and bottom eyelids back together. This was when he was 10 and now just about to turn 16 you cannot tell which eye so should heal well. Perhaps you need to start wearing full protective clothing ( I am thinking like the american footballers ) in future !!

Just having a think ( a bit difficult due to age and so many contacts, hahaha) and I reckon that every horse / pony that I've known has done something like this by accident or design!

Daughter's nutcase eventer lifted me off the floor of her box, flung me into the ceiling where I hit my neck and elbowed the wall on the way down and bounced off the waterbucket ring for good measure - this put her into a panic so I crawled into a ball under the ring while she did three circuits kicking the side boards 4ft up. Two chipped teeth for me and a bad headache for a week!

My own mare clonked my cheek with hers trying to look out of the top door at the same time that I was standing there - she had very well defined bones ( high class woman you see!) and gave me a cut top and bottom of the eye - the yard chatter speculated whose husband I'd fought with.

I have some good sized scars now visible on my head from other causes than horses - the sad thing about them is - they used to be covered in my hair!

Ouch Maree - your poor son!

Istclassan - I know. It is all part and parcel with horses isn't it! The girls at the yard were all sharing thier gruesome tales whilst admiring my war wound today. I got off lucky compared to some of them! Just not looking forward to sporting my black eye with inch long glue scar at work!!

Mister Jay - I did consider suing him but I know for a fact he has no money - just eats all mine! :D

Yep, and isn't it wonderful when you have an injury - everybody tells you about theirs - which are far worse!

As for going to work with the cut - best make up some story about being happy-slapped as it will generate more sympathy than you obviously being rich and have more money than sense playing with horses!

Absoluteley, told my son to make up some tale involving a shark for the girls !!!. He still has facial scaring to his cheek so hope he invents something more dramatic !!
I think my hair went from mousey brown to white during the first few days !
(his Dad is nicknamed frank spencer by the way so he is now called frank junior )

I got a pretty hard headbutt this week too. Luckily just a bruise along my jawline and cheek that I can cover with my hair. Off to see the inlaws tomorrow so I hope they dont notice and think OH has been butting me :D

Ouch! Hope you healing ok.

My hub is mortified at me going around looking like a beaten wife! lol!

Last time I got a black eye from a head but, I was going out that weekend straight from work, and having a cigarette whilst waiting for the taxi. A bloke walking past called me a slag. Can only assume he thought I was standing on a street corner with a shiner for a reason

The day before my brothers wedding at which I was a bridesmaid , a horse went for me in the field and left a huge lump on my forehead. That took some makeup to cover up !!

I'm currently sporting a chipped front tooth thanks to kenny! I was about to leave his stable and he went to look out the door and caught me in the back of the head, so I effectively face planted the top of the door  should really get round to going to the dentist at some point to get it sorted...
