Cracked heel and pig oil and sulphur

I have just bought a lovely big appaloosa and she has a rash/crack on her heel and is slightly lame. I have been washing the heel in dilute warm hibi-scrub, drying and applying udder cream. I have some pig-oil and sulphur, is it ok to use this on a cracked heel?

Mmmm, if she's appaloosa, has she got pink skin & white hair? Coz I used Pig Oil and Sulpher on mine and it made him very hot and pink, poor lad.

So I'd deffo patch test first and/or use something a bit more gentle like Sudocrem?

She is bay in her lower limbs, slight mottling..

just mix some of the sulphur into the udder cream, just enough for it to go off white. then rub this in, and stop using the hibiscrub. instead get some iodine surgical wash without alcholol you can buy this on line and it will kill the infection but not damage as much as the harsh hibiscrub. i treat mudder fever etc this way and they usually clear up in about a week

The sulphur is already mixed with pig oil. Is it ok to add the pig oil/sulphur mix to the udder cream?

my friend used to put cream on and then clingfilm it when it was mud fever cracks. but my instinct would be to not put cream on it, because it will seal off the air supply which will make the skin go soft and soggy like it would be with a plaster on our own skin, and this would delay the healing process (skin needs air to heal) i would be tempted to look at ways of keeping it really really clean and antibacterial-ed and still have air supply - which you won't be able to achieve with a cream.
totally agree about the hibiscrub - its made for humans not horses imo.

ps i wouldn't advise mixing pig oil and sulpur in a cream yourself you need to buy a pre mixed prep for mud fever or similar.
