My tb mare has really bad cracked feet mainly her back ones. When I bought her I was told she wouldn't be able to hold shoes, but now my yard manager thinks she might be able to fronts on. Just wondered if anybody had experienced anything similar.

thanks in advance :)

Put your horse on a no sugar, low carbohydrate diet and feet it Pro Hoof from Progressive Earth, sold on eBay. That should resolve the foot quality. If it doesn't, test for Cushings. If it goes well over winter and gets worse in spring, restrict her grass intake.

Don't forget that you will need to grow out the weak hoof and that takes months - so don't give up after a few weeks. The minerals and good diet will only improve new hoof growth. However getting the diet right is the key to good horn quality, so it's definitely the right way to go. :)
