Hi everyone

Thought I would do a Cracker update. I'm rubbish at transferring pictures, but you can see some nice frosty pictures of him here, with some of our other ponies too.

Cracker is an absolute star. He spent his first week just wandering around the new yard getting used to his surroundings and meeting some of our other ponies over stable doors - this was usually met with him squealing, stamping his front hooves and rearing and trying to nibble the other ponies' noses!

Over the last couple of weeks we have put him in one of our paddocks where he can see some of the other horses and ponies but isn't too close for it to cause too many problems! He likes looking at all the other ponies and horses and saying hello to any that come in sight. He is a funny little pony and hates to get his feet wet, so when you're leading him out to his paddock he jumps over any puddles to avoid them.

Cracker is an absolute angel to lead. He is good to tie up and groom and handle all over. He also a very clean little pony, doesn't mess his stable up and doesn't even require much grooming as he doesn't get muddy!

Cracker is due to be gelded tomorrow so I will come back and update you then as to how this went and how he is doing after this, but thought I'd start an update now as its a little overdue! :)

Glad to see he's settling in, shame I missed him on the day he arrived.

Sure he won't miss his boy bits, sounds like he'll make a great kids pony :)

Aww this is wonderful news. What a star he is, he deserved another chance.

Well done Hope Pastures, Wonkey Donkey, Becca and Yeeharider and to everyone who has donated towards his care.

After recent posts on rescue attempts it is so good to see that sometimes it has a happy ending :D :D :D :D

Aww good to see him settled and happy... He sounds like a fun little character!
Well done to everyone involved in rescuing him.

Please keep us updated :) OP - I had a look through the full album from Hope Pastures, and decided Jasper is the most adorable pony ever! What a sweet face!

Thanks everyone :)

Both Muffin and Jasper are very cute. Jasper has been there for years and is a favourite with a lot of people, he is very friendly!

Cracker is now a gelding!!!! All went very well by all accounts and was over with fairly quickly. He was once again a very good boy.

Hopefully he will heal relatively quickly and without too many problems and then we can start looking for a new home for him. Sophie sent me a photo of him as I was at my other work today so wasn't there for it, he looked a bit sorry for himself but otherwise alright!

I will keep you updated on his progress, but thank you to everyone that helped with his rescue. :)

ahh fantastic he looks happy in his new abode :). Hopefully after being gelded he will find a lovely new home :) he's such a little dude he definitely deserves a loving home with kids to spoil him :D

Thanks for the text Amy, I have uploaded the photo you sent.

So here he is, now the baubleless one, poor little man.

Still he can now have a whole new life, he is so cute and good that I am sure he will have no trouble at all finding a new home.

I love the rug too Amy, very bright :D :D

Haven,t read up on the history of Hope pastures but there are some lovely lucky ponies my faverite is the pony who looks like he has been standing in white paint lol.

Thanks rockysmum - my phone won't let me transfer. I didn't put that rug on him as I was at office job work today, but I think its ace!!

Cannot wait until we start looking for a home for him, he's a very lucky pony and its horrible to think of all of those that aren't as lucky.

Thanks hobo - the one that looks like he's stepped in white paint is Muffin the Mule!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

For any Cracker fans, a quick Cracker update by request. I promise to get pictures this weekend as at work all weekend so should be easier!!

Cracker is doing very well after he was gelded and he is healing nicely! He is settling down a lot and has stopped neighing all the time (he used to just neigh constantly - a lovely high pitched stallion neigh.)

He still neighs and squeals at one of our mares that he sometimes catches sight of but he is getting better and is now wondering around the enclosed yard again until fully healed to reduce infection risk.

The vet checked Cracker's teeth when he gelded him and said that he is about 12 and that his teeth have never been done so this is the next job next Tuesday as he has a few sharp ones.

The next step for the little man once he is fully recovered is to see what he knows. From experience of handling him so far he has been well loved and handled a lot at some stage so there is the chance that he has had work done to him.

We will gradually have a go at long reining. We do want to see if he is used to a saddle but do not have one small enough, or a pony pad, treeless or anything so this will have to wait!

The more we know about him, the easier he will be to eventually rehome. He has lovely manners though.

Pictures at the weekend :)

What size is he ? I have a small pony saddle surplus to requirements here, I will measure it and if it is any use for him, or any other pony you have I will send it to you.

Be Positive - that would be fantastic, thank you :D

Katastropheykat - I'm not sure of his rug size to be honest (its my part time job!) but I know that the little fleece he is wearing in the picture was found chucked on the floor of his stable the next day.

Clearly decided it was not his colour or style! Bad enough losing his balls let alone being dressed up in that in the same day!
