Have put this in the new forum too but probably better off here!!

Just out of curiousity how much do you think the mare I have to take hunting for the season would be?

She is roughly 15hh, coloured irish 8 year old slightly cobby mare. Shouldn't think she does much dressage but hunts like an absolute demon. She was clearingt 5 ft+ hedges on Tuesday in very wet deep country and taking her own line (guided slightly by me!) and clearing everything. I think she would be ideal for a teenage boy's hunting pony. She'll jump anything in cold blood and is exceptionally clever. She is pretty strong to say the least but is getting better with the more work she is getting. She can hunt all day and never lets you down.

I'd be very interested in hearing what you think because I am tempted to try and buy her myself if I can. She's fantastic!
 
She was amazing hunting the other day - so good! All the other horses were big TB types and I was terrified thinking how on earth are we going to get over those hedges. Just pointed her and she flew over them all even one which was about as wide as it was high at the end of the day and I looked down and thought "oh sh*t... its massive". Quite a few were definately over 5 ft. I'm sure she is very much like your little mare - size doesn't matter in their cases!! And they are so much more reliable than big horses and easier to get on. God we are lucky to have them!!
 
A good hunter can be as much as a young competition horse - so 5 figures in some cases.

If the people you are riding it for are interested in selling it - find out how much they want. If you are that serious about hunting, and she's going to allow you to go over any country, then be prepared to dig deep....
 
would suggest that youd be looking at the upper end of 4 figures... think 8 or 9k really, especially if shes had no soundeness problems, and is a valuable hireling in terms of how much she brings in... they're difficult to replace you see...
