My little jack russell stud dog is very well muscled and he some times gets cramp in has back leg bless him sat here now rubbing it for him

As above, are you sure its cramp? What are the symptoms, JRTs sometimes suffer from a slipping patella, which causes them to hold a hind leg up.

not only knee cap issues tho, perfectly normal terriers run on 3 legs sometimes, like a skip and a hop and shake when sat still, its a funny hyped up thing, but not poo pooing that your dog doesn't have cramp, just wondering how you know? it it curling its toes up or something? xx

Sorry but I dont think there is anything normal about a dog skipping and not using one leg.

I don't think you understand what I mean, hard to explain, i am a veterinary nurse and yes terriers do have luxating patellas sometimes and yes they will run on 3 legs then back to 4, but terriers often to a skip, not even holding the leg up, hard to describe, both mine do it and its not their knees.... almost like a missed stride as they sniff something, does anyone know what i mean?? lol

It's a definate terrier thing. xx

jeez didn't it do more than a skip?

We once had a terrier who did the whole missing a stride thing and our surgery referred her to a specialist who agreed was a luxating patella, it had the op and recovered well and had a firm knee cap, hips etc ok, but the dog continued to do this funny skip , i am not talking every pace btw, but ever so often, the specialist and the vet were baffled, was suggested it was a breed trait and was said firmly no! but you will be surprised how many dogs we get in and the owner is worried and the dog will do this sniff and a hop and the vets say leg fine etc, don't worry, yes there are obvious ones with luxating knees, and lots of them too, but terrier definately do this as a trait in my opinion, my 16 yr old still does it when excited, its like they forget their pace... very hard to explain, and bit pointless chewing it over, by old boy still lies out like a puppy in the frog position and doesn't have any arthritis either. Lets agree to disagree me thinks!
