Hi, Please can someone explain to me about crank nosebands and how they differ from a normal noseband?

My horse came with one, but I don't know if he needs it and I want to get a new bridle... I have found a place that do really nice bridles (Evison equine), but they only do crank! I do everything from hunting and eventing, to dressage; so are they nosebands that are allowed in BSJA etc?

TIA

Because of the pulley action they are much easier to do up super tight than normal. Take extra care in making sure you've not done it up tight and it will be fine.

The old horses on a dressage yard I worked at all had dents in their noses from being ridden in tight cranks for so much of their life.

Hate 'em, only coz I'm lazy and it's extra things to faff about with! Just sold a bridle that came with horse with a crank noseband, she now has a new bridle with ordinary cavesson on it. :)

Hate them.
Should be banned IMHO! Too many people do them up far too tightly.
if we need to keep a hirses mouth closed, we use the - seemingly-old fashioned flash noseband.
