well on sat i decided to go to the beach with the girls from the yard. now over here horses and dogs are only allowed on the beach before 10am and after 7pm in the summer months so it was about 9.45 and we were prancing around on the beach evey thing ok and then went off at a canter to stretch our legs. as we were going along there was a guy with a rotweiller [sp] heading towards us from the other side of the beach. not on a lead but that was fine until we got next to him (with a good distance between us and him) the dog just turned and lunged at my mares back legs!!!!! the owner just watched him and the horse dropped her shoulder and spun leaving me to exit out the side door! now i tried to cling on to the reins but she was actually dragging me along so had to let go :O( the dog then chased mare down the bloomin beach! the owner had no control what so ever. luckily loads of peolple stopped and helped catch her and eventually she was caught at a car wash down an extremely busy road. i thought she would fall or something and imagined getting the vet out. but we got home safely both aching but her tendons and stuff seem fine just a bit sore. and that ruined the rest of my weekend caz i couldnt do flipping ne thing. ahhhhhh

What a horrible thing to have happened - glad you both came out of it relatively unscathed. As the owner of a gorgeous, well-behaved rottie I despair at some owners' behaviour which leads to them getting such a bad name.

Not the best Saturday morning then! However - look on the bright side, neither of you were hurt badly and you have access to a beach in the summer months! Lots of us would LOVE to take our horses to the beach. The owner of the dog is obviously a tw*t but hopefully he now realises his dog is not good with horses and will put it on a lead in future preventing other people going through what you have just experienced.
Hope it hasn't ruined your confidence - get back down to the beach and have a good long canter and think of us land locked souls in the midlands who are miles from any sand!

i know im really lucky over here no matter which part of the island you are your always just 10 mins from a beach. i dont think its knocked my confidence but we will see next time there is a big dog lol. i have to admit i did report him to the police but not as an 'attack' just that the owner didnt have control over his animal. maybe i acted a bit rash tho

i don't think you were too rash - if this chap gets a warning from the police, it may stop this happening again. I hope you are feeling a bit more positive now and cheered up from your crap weekend - a good rant really helps doesn't it?!!

o yeah it really does. especially when i told my family who arnt horsey they didnt seem to think much of it !!!! lol

Why is it that morons always have rottweilers/staffies/ some other "hard" dog/penis substitute?

They obviously don't have the brain power to train them properly and make it hard for those people who have these breeds and take trouble to educate them. I hope you're ok after your fall and that your horse soon forgets about it all.
