Went for a hack yesterday on my bomb proof cob, same route done 100 times by myself again we hack alone so nothing new there.
Coming home along the road the yard is in, something in hedge spooks him he bucks I go over shoulder then as he trots away he treads on my "breast bone"
I walk him back to yard meet anouther livery who takes over and I phone my parents who come and take me to A&E 7 hours latter one cat scan, one X ray and ablood tests etc I am allowed home.
Woken up this morning bruised and battered and feeling rough, but my problem is I am S@@T scared off my horse who up till 10am yesterday I loved so much finding this really upsetting. I know I can ride out with outher liveries etc so no problem there just feel scared off him - someone tell me I will be ok other than my other half who is non horsey!!

sorry its long

Don't be bloomin daft!

Sorry you had a fall, but why would you suddenly be scared of him?

Oh my god, glad you are ok though.
We all lose our confidence at on time or another you just have to take things slowly. Ride him in the school (if you have one) once you feel better. If you have'nt got a school try and go for a quiet little plod with another livery and then build up from there.
You will get there!!
Hope things work out x.

just proves again that there no such thing as "bomb proof"!!!

Poor you, atleast nothings damaged.
I came off my Cob a few weeks ago and broke my wrist! We were practising XC, Ive still got a plaster on but my wrist feels normal and Ive had major withdraw symptoms! I decided that I was going to ride on Sunday just gone with a friend and we were only going to go around the block, I started feeling really nervous as me nor bear had been out riding for 5 weeks!
But I told myself dont be so stupid, He's never naughty the accident was a silly mistake, it was nobodys fault,
So I got on him, and then decided to go further!! Ive been on him everyday since LOL!

You'll be fine, just don't think about it and you will be cool! this was my 2nd time falling off Bear in 2 years!! The 1st time was the end of last summer he spooked and spun in the lane that leads to home! I landed on my hands and knees and didnt even get grazes!!

Good luck chick, Im sure you will be fine...
Cobs rule!!!

Your horse sounds about as steady as they come. You've had a blip & your conidence has been knocked but this spook by your horse wasn't a premeditated action by him, something actually made him scared & spook. He didn't do it deliberately & so you shouldn't really be feeling that way. How many times has someone taken you by surprise & made you jump?

As has been said, next time you ride out take someone else with you & you will find that your confidence will be restored.

I have always been a super confident rider and then I got a new horse. He was very different to my old boy who I have had for twenty odd years. He is very spooky and for a while I was, not scared, but apprehensive when I got on him. I stuck at it and now have all my old confidence back on him. Get back on in company if you feel better but you'll be fine. What's the alternative?? Giving up horses.

Sorry to hear about your fall, sounds very painful too. I think we all get shaken up when we come a cropper but its worse when you've really injured yourself. I'm sure you will feel better mentally in a few weeks time, thinking about it now when your still shaken up and still in a lot of pain will certainly make you feel more nervous and will no doubt make you feel worse about the whole thing.

Try not to worry and think about riding your horse until your 100% recovered, give yourself a little time out, go and do something you really enjoy (non equestrian) like shopping/few beers/out with friends etc etc... depending on how old you are/what you like to do etc and give yourself a boost again.

Your in the wrong frame of mind at the moment which won't help your confidence issues.

Just goes to show that even the most 100% bombproof horses can have you off when you least expect it, but think yourself lucky that your horse is usually very good, which a good thing and a comfort to know.

Think about all these eventers that have bad falls....they recover, get back on and do it all over again year after year....why because all horse people are slightly tapped !!! ha haa

You'll be fine hun!:)

Losing confidence is an awful thing but you really have to work to get over it.

Its only been one bad experience and if you both came out ok other than bruising etc you have to focus on that. NOT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED.

You could try taking a few drops of bach rescue remedy before you ride next but please don't put it off any longer than you have to.

You will be fine but think positively!
