crazy driver and police update!!! :)

Not sure if many of you read my last post about the crazy driver that very nearly caused a very serious accident with me and my friends whilst out hacking a couple of weeks ago.. but i was out on my youngster with 2 friends and a young male driver stormed past us at nearly 100mph.. screetched to a halt right next to us and started verbally abusing us severly for asking him to slow down, The guy then purposefully made his wheels spin so much we got covered in smoke.

Anyway long story short i reported this guy to the poice and then have gone to town with him on it. all 3 of us have given statements against him and also an outsider who heard the commontion and came out of her farm house to see if we were okay and he has denied everything to the police, saying he remembers the incident but wasnt speeding and never spoke rudely to us.. which of course we new he would but the poilce have said he's getting taken to court over this as theres enough evidence to prosecute for dangerous driving and also a public order offence for his aggression towards us. Not totally sure what they class this as in police terms :? but they seem to think he's guna recieve a very hefty fine and possibly points on his license :) Happy days he's aslo been warned if he is involved in any other incident his car will be totally ceased by the poilce.. even happier days..

Its really nice to know the police take these complaints very seriously and actually do something about it.

I hope this is a shred of small justice for us horse riders who have im sure at some point all experienced dangerous drivers whilst out riding. Hopefully he may think twice now about been so aggresive in future and driving like a maniac. xxxx
 
I'd like to think he'd rethink his attitude but I'm a cynic and I suspect that he will continue to bear a grudge against horseriders. I'm sure you are feeling vindicated at the moment.
 
Well done for following through on this and sounds like you got a good repsonse. So nice to hear the police taking this seriously.
I am sure the driver will not change but maybe other people seeing what has happened to him might rethink their attitudes.
 
Glad they've done something about this!
He'll prob get a slap on the wrist, but hopefully it'll deter him, won't make him like horse riders but least he'll have a bit more dignity about himself.
 
well done you!! That is good news, just a shame that people like him even exist! Good luck with your youngster, certainly sounds like one in a million to have stood for that and kept you safe :) xx
 
Wow, this is fantastic news!! I am seriously considering getting a helmet camera, from all the horror stories I have heard. I hope he gets a big fine and points to remind him what an idiot he was, and how bad an accident he could have caused.
 
It is worthwhile, even though the cops did nothing, I discovered the guy [who was a problem] was "known to the police" so it was just a matter of time to get "evidence", apparently as long as no one saw him hit me, he only had to deny it, and he "got away with it", btw don't go to C~~~~~~~~~ stud in north ayrshire, "just in case"
 
Thanks guys am really happy that something is been done about this ive been riding for about 20years now and this si the first time ive ever made an official complaint about any driver and im happy how the poilce have responded. Have to say i am a bit cynical about what might happen to him aswell but i thought hopefully the fact he's been taken to court might at least give him a kick up the bum to realise what he did was wrong.. and maybe word of mouth about him being done to his friends family etc might make them think twice.. Holding out no hopes but really chuffed poilce took very seriously..

Hats off to coppers they have there hands tied a lot of the time but have done us horse riders proud this time really pushing the case. :)

Ooh, now that did make interesting reading ... the other side of the story ;).

I'm thinking you don't drive a TVR and tootle round at 30mph, you blast it when you think you're safe to do so.

Sounds to me like the driver is a complete knobber with no balls to stand up and say "you caught me bang to rights, I was driving irresponsibly".

Hope the CPS decide some form of punishment is appropriate :).
 
My OH used to drive a TVR, I can promise that it was never blasted anywhere - I hated it because I could see sweet FA in the wing mirrors, and the bloody thing was off the road more than it was on the road - unreliable does not come close to describing TVRs!

Some people do just like driving that kind of car, and yet have the requisite number of brain cells to drive it appropriately on smaller roads, the two are not mutually exclusive you know!

Makes interesting reading, thanks and did you see the numpty called Opulent about the 18th post down the first page, he really has got a problem with horses and I'd hate to meet him whilst out on a horse, think with his attitutde he shouldn't be driving at all, do you?

OP well done for getting the result, are you going to the court to see what the outcome/fine is ?

Being close to where TVR's are made, there are more than a few round here.
They are inordinately noisy, I can her my husband's mates from half a mile away :o and I know for a fact that they 'open it up' when they can :eek:.

His wife is horsey and he tries to keep away from where horses may be riding as he appreciates that they are bloody noisy and how even the quietest horse can be upset by them. He's far too precious about his to risk a horse sitting on it :cool:.

They make me laugh when they get out of it :o:D:D, any coolness the car may generate soon evaporates at the sight of those two extricating themselves from it :D:D.

We have the Caterham Sevens round here, they can be loud too.
Main noise round here though is by boy racers and superbikes with loud cans.

Yes Im a regular on PH I wasnt at the insident so canot comment but hope the truth comes out and if someone or somepeople arnt being 100% honest about things then hopefully the police will come down on them like a ton of bricks..... Oh And OT did anyone see thePH thread about the police being afraid of gypsys on plod and the law ????
LOL I think the mods on here would have had a heart attack on seeing some of the comments!!!!!!!
 
I read that, and it is the same of story of one person's view. The riders flagged him down and he stopped, but maybe he was travelling fast at the time. If the riders then had a go at him I would say that they were frightened, and the horse misbehaving could either been because of the noise, or the fact that the rider was scared.

I was cross with a driver and gave him a very dirty look. He stopped and came back with a "what's your problem" attitude and I replied with "we were frightened" and that took the wind out of his sails and we both apologised to each other!
 
Threads like this make me wonder why i even bothered opening my mouth to complain. I agree there are always 2 sides to every story and how situations can be perseved by different parties but to out right blatenly lie. I feel really disheartened that people obviously believe his totally played down story.. and very sorry for his father who is clearly the gentleman posting on this site and can see is trying to help his son out which am sure every parent would but how evil to be liying to this extent!! and to his dad who obsiously cares a great deal..

Its things like this that make me wish id just kept quiet :( :(
 
What?! You did absolutely the right thing reporting him and the police obviously agree as they are taking it seriously!

I did love the dad trying to defend his son by saying something like 'of course the car accelerates quicker than other cars'. Well yes, it can, but only if you want it to! :rolleyes:
 
Entirely correct to report this, imo, and I'm speaking as a driver of a small, noisy, powerful car.

One thing I find really funny on the other site is that the driver and his Dad are trying to convince everybody that there is some kind of conspiracy going on whereby 4 "horsey" people are trying to "pervert the course of justice" and have decided for no reason whatsoever to report the driver to the police when he is obviously perfect, has done nothing wrong and is completely innocent of everything. He actually protects poor vulnerable pussycats, too.

Somebody doth protest just that little bit too much, methinks ;-P

I don't know the age of the driver but young men are notoriously speedy when they can be, hence their high insurance premiums, as they are more likely to be in accidents.

My nephew, 18, rolled his mothers car, it ended up on its roof on the beach, after going over the sea wall. He and his passenger were extremely lucky.
His father turned up and his son swore he was only doing 30. His Dad said "by all means, lie to me but if you lie when the police turn up, you're on your own". He did the decent and honest thing and confessed he was speeding. As it was, the police thought his lucky escape was lesson enough and they didn't pursue him further.
Pity this lads father is so gullible he can't see through his son. I suppose it's the 'blood thicker than water' thing :o.

He was lucky in more ways than one!

Wildcard - I believe you entirely and from the other forum I reckon he is just lying to cover his a*s. You did the right thing by reporting him, I would have done the same :).
 
I also adored how 'the car accelerates faster than other cars'. Yeeees... it no doubt does, which is why you shouldn't have a car like that until oooh, I don't know, you can actually control the speed at which it travels by being lighter on the pedals when you need to be:rolleyes:

Obviously that is a very radical suggestion though;)

ETA It would be a bit like me saying 'My car has very light steering, so of course I crash into things going around corners...'
 
I have just read through the whole of the thread on that link & I am absolutely appalled by the attitude of some of the posters, it is shocking.

It's very sad as I don't think you can educate the sort of people who are so selfish and full of hatred & vitriol :(
 
Good on the Police, maybe now people will stop criticizing them. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Good result all round I thinks!! :) :)
