crazy driver and police update!!! :)

Unfortunatly if they have met MS RUDENESS in the Eartham area of west sussex I can quite see why riders get such a terrible reputation. I now have a name for the rude cow and will be speaking to the local bobby about her and see if they can cruise past and see the rudeness themselves (local bobby is a fellow horse owner too and will stop and have a word.)

Your not exactly polite yourself are you ?
I think you will find being unfriendly and a bit ignorant is not an illegal act yet.

The comment on Pistonheads that made me laugh was ....... Horses are only afraid of 2 things, everything that moves and everything that is still :D.
You can kind of see how a non horsey person could come to that conclusion.

I liked the bit about starting a petition from a forum of mainly men called 'Pistonheads' being detrimental to the cause...:D

There are some sensible types on there, with intelligent things to say.

Like many said, we all have to share the roads, as riders, we don't like HAVING to use the roads, and although there is a bridle way at the bottom of my field, I STILL have to use a small portion of the road to get to it, in a perfect world we would respect each other, but it's not to be. ~sigh~

I'm also rather scared at the hatred and vitriol against riders on that Pistonheads website. I just hope I never meet any of their horse-hating members on the road as I fear I won't live to tell the tale.

Ditto!

I had a horrible incident a couple of weeks ago. I was hacking home on a perfectly sunny, sunday afternoon. I had my high viz on, complete with 'please pass wide and slow' tabard, and I thank every single car (My bf laughs at how religiously I raise my hand to thank cars). The road is one that runs between two villages with the entrance to 2 bridleways on it; there are horse signs to warm motorists of this. I use the roads as little as possible, preferring bridleways, but this bit of road links the bridleway to the road where my yard is. Anyway, two cars (clearly together) full of absolute ****ers decided to intentionally try and scare my young horse. They sped past me from head on, which left me too speechless to gesture to them or anything. They then turned around specifically so they could do the same coming up from behind. I estimate that they were both doing about 80MPH, but I'll hold my hand up and say I may not be very accurate on that, but they were certainly speeding. They came past me as close as they could - all of a couple of feet from my 5 year old, who it has to be said was a super star.

I was left completely cold. I actually halted my horse for a few seconds after they'd gone as I was clutching my chest with absolute cold fear at what they'd just done. The thought/image of their speeding cars hitting my horse and the carnage and near certain death for us both was terrifying. But as an afterthought I wondered why these idiots don't realise that any accident that happened would have very probably killed them, as well as us

They were that damn fast I didn't have a sniff of a number plate and in fact I could only tell you that the first car was a silver skoda and the second was small and black - I was too shocked to take in the make. There's no way I could have got my camera phone out. The whole thing really shook me up. I've been riding on the road for years, and I've met many inconsiderate drivers, but nothing like this. As I say, I was cold with fear and shaken up for some days afterwards. :(

Awful Puppy. Must have been very, very scary.

You should report it to the police, just so they have a record of the incident for future reference if needed.

I was once on a hack and a local d.ickhead in a tw@tmobile sped past us on a single lane. I'd seen him coming (the road was on a straight) and signalled for him to slow down (I generally trot on and pull into the verge for all drivers) He just gave me the fingers and zoomed off.

A few weeks later I was driving home along the same road and when I came to the corner before the straight I saw the mangled wreck of the same blue car in the field clearly just freshly deposited and the d.ickhead on his mobile phone standing next to it. I slowed down, wound down my window and as he walked towards me (and I had assessed he was actually ok), I gave him the fingers and I drove off.
