crazy livery - what would you do?

I think I would put a notice up on the fence advising that no one has been given permission ot 'ride' this horse and anyone seen doing so will recieve a letter from your solicitor. The possible damage, not just to his back but to his education and future behaviour coul dbe immense!

And follow through with the letter if she does it again.

^^ This - threaten with the legal option - I prefer this to threatening with violence as she sounds like a fruit loop...

I am aloss for words!!! I would never get on someones horse without permission and I teach people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good lord I would kill her. If you had asked her a couple of times not to get on your horse which to be honest you should not even have to say I would go to 10,000 feet. I have broken horses at 2 but they were my horses my choice (they were backed ie sat on and turned away again till almost 4 as they were big boys!) try to talk to your yard owner if not get a massive cattle prod lay in wait for her and shock her properly!!!
On a serious note there is a huge amount of good advice here but it has to stop and you should not be worried if she is going to get on your horse. The YO has a duty of care so try talking to him again.
Good luck let us know how you get on

All yards have to have some rules, even if it's just DIY. One of those rules is usually unspoken i.e. don't mess with other peoples' horses or belongings. Here the rule needs to be shouted out loud by the yard owner!

Miss Candy - this cretin is a big bully!! and how do we deal with bullies? we don't let them intimidate us and we stand up to them.
This doesn't have to be with violence - I agree you must get legal advice about what you can do - most insurance policies have a free legal helpline.
Act quickly and nip this in the bud so she is under no illusions that you are ok with this.
I would tell her in no uncertain terms she has to stay away from your horse from now on and you are taking legal advice to make sure she does.
I would do it in front of the rest of the yard so you have witnesses and let the yard owner know you are taking this action. He should have some rules, and the primary one is do not touch other peoples horses unless specifically asked to do so.
This doesn't really have anythin to do with the age of your horse, it is the principal of the horse is your property and she is interfering with her without your permission, she is a nut case - and a bully -stand up to her now.
I don't think you should leave, I wonder where the other liveries stand - how would they like it if she rode their horses when they weren't there? If she stays and you go, she could pick on them - and she - will no doubt about that.
Ask for their support. The farmer would not like it if everyone ended up leaving because of her - it was a nice atmosphere before she arrived, don't let her spoil it. And if you move, the next place may not be as nice anyway.
If you are unsuccessful in putting her in her place and no-one will back you up, then but only then is when you need to consider moving.
Good luck;)

some very good advice on this thread!!!

as well as all this op, if i were you, tomorrow i would go and get 2 full bottles of canter coat shine, and literally polish the horse as much as physically possible, so theres no chance she could grip at all.

then i would creosote the rug.

if i heard anything else, i would move. preferably before i killed her.

what a b@tch!!!!!!!

i would kill her, there and then on the spot. no way would i let anyone get away with it, not only could she hurt herself (which would be her own stupid fault) but imagine if your youngster injured itself by spooking or something? I would be having serious words...

Hope you get it sorted! :(

Not a wind up unfortunately I have been told on 2 seperate occasions by 2 different people who were with her when she tried to do it.

The second person who told me actually questioned why I had a problem with it but then she broke her own horse in when he was 2...

I haven't seen the crazy one since her last attempt and I'm just shocked that she has blatantly ignored me. I'm not used to dealing with people like that!

Miss Candy, if you are in anyplace near my neck of the woods, I'd be more than happy to come over to visit :) Been a little while since I put an official hat on, but if needs must....

However, I do like getting out and about, so a coffee offer & a check over of your Fuzzy would be lovely :)

Seriously guys - while most of you are advocating violence and all our emotions are running high - op must NOT resort to that. She will quickly find herself in the wrong and liable for damages. Take the legal route and make sure you are covered. I would have no problem in calling her out in front of other people but just make sure she has absolutely no comeback on you.

Two people at the same yard who think there is nothing wrong with riding someone else's horse, against their express wishes? Sounds like a yard full of nutters - I'd move asap. What kind of yard is this? Do they ride all the horses at random without the owner's permission, or just the youngsters?

Whether you are used to dealing with people like that or not, surely you have confronted her and read her the riot act?

This is a problem for the land owner/yard manager, as if she gets hurt she may have a claim against him, also if your horse gets hurt you may also not be too happy.

I would speak to him and let him deal with it. I would though make it quite clear to her that this cannot happen again.
