mild rant but why is there always people who race round all the time on their horses/ponies, in the practice area and on the course. fair enough you want a quick time in timed section on ht but is there a need to race round the rest of the course especially with ground being so hard. i had to pull over for crazy girl going soooo fast nearly sent my horse galloping across plough field!!!

sorry just read bottom oofadoofa had a bad experience? its to be honest usually young kids who dont understand how to ride with respect for your horse/pony

Yes it's a shame, but have seen so many people whizzing round there.

I took my 5 year old there 18 months ago to a hunter trial and did the 2'6"/2'9" class as his first time XC. Well, the place was so packed, they were still taking entries on the day and they ended up letting horses off every 30 seconds! My baby horse was having a good look at the ditch when a bloke came up behind me screaming "get out the way". Ended up about 5 of us going round together team chase style. Not a great experience for a young horse! So never again for me!!!

no not gd this hunter trial was better organised didnt let people just keep entering as my friend arrived bout half hour after me and couldnt get in. i just dont understand why u hav to go flat out whole way round, much nicer to take it steady i think, i even trotted in few places.

I go very fast, and I admit it looks like I have no control but I always make sure I get out the way and overtake carefully and out of the way of the fences... With my horse, it's give and take- I let him do his thing and when I need him to slow down he generally gives in.

I go round hunter trials at a good hunting pace which might look fast to some but I thought that was the sort of pace you were meant to do hunter trials at? Its not showjumping but I do aim at jumping out of a good, but pacey rhythm. If your horse is having difficulty at a jump, you do have to look out for someone coming up from behind I guess.
