Cream for sheath

Can anyone recommend a cream for stopping midges on horses sheath. I can't use the yellow summer fly cream as old lad had a really bad reaction to it. Is Avon skin so soft still recommend?
 
Mine gets so itchy and annoyed with the midges round his sheath I have been using killitch and now that's run out I'm trying the biteback cream. Both seem to work well.
 
I've been using coconut oil and mixing with a few drops of eucalyptus and lemon oil and just applying to the sheath and ears and around other non hairy areas and it seems to be working.

I can't use alot of horse products on Arabi he is allergic to so much I just have to go easy on the essential oils, but his always been finecwith coconut oil.

Apparently most insects just don't like any sort of oil or greasy stuff
 
I've also been using hedgewitch twice a day and I think it definitely works they don't seem to be as bothered as they were before, I have only been using it for about a week I have used half the bottle but they are not wanting in like they did before I started using it.
 
I was using Sudocrem as they were just so bad :(

Just switched to Hedgewitch spray and Skin so soft plus the Hedgewitch sting and bite gel which seems to have stopped the cycle :)

Can’t believe how bad they are this year!

The company told me this stuff was too strong to use on delicate areas like the sheath, do you find it okay? I currently have a gelding with a really swollen sheath from the flies whcih I can’t seem to get to go down. Currently slathering it in their silver cream until the skin heals and adding Hedgewitch fly spray on top. It’s a nightmare.

That’s strange, it’s supposed to be for sweet itch which can cause open sores and it’s perfectly alright to put on them. Neither of them have had a reaction to it and if any of them was going to it would be my EMS pony who gets a terribly swollen sheath in the summer if I’m not careful with him. If anything their skin is beautifully soft.

be very careful with that it can go into an infection which can run down the legs and stomach

washing the sheath inside and willy if poss and all across the stomach and top of legs n the inside with soap and water, well and the arse area! then wipe morning and night with tiny bit of dettol and salt water the whole area, and inside the sheath, with a alarge cotton wool pad, then apply a little iodene twice a week but only if it spreads to the stomach. but not on the sheath, also savlon cream and nettex fly cream on the sheath then nettex spray all around

i would put the creamy stuff around the sheath at the entrance but not too much

also make sure the tail is brushed out morning before turning out, it can get stuck together with the creams, which make it slower thought the air when flicking off the flies and perhaps wash once a week

sounds a lot but its pretty quick when organized
 
Smother with sudacream. Then Johnson baby talc. Which sticks to cream. Because he smells so nice , they stay away 😀
 
We recently discovered Equisalve as my mum’s horse had some cells lasered off a very delicate area… vets suggested equisalve all over his sheath to keep the flies away. Seems to work quite well so far, it’s citronella-based and quite thick.

Yeah that did a great job when a previous one of mine had multiple sarcoids lasered off during a hot summer, and the leftovers got used for various sensitive bits.
