Creating more room on my yard - ideas please

I have 30 acres and 9 stables on my yard...basically I was wondering about the prospect of turning my barn area into either 2 stables at one end and storage at the other?
The only issue I can think of is that the doors would be shut at night?

The other issue is to put up two field shelters on the yard, use them as storage, and then clear them out if we need temporary stables.

I actually don’t need the stables, but would like somewhere to put one of my field liveries should I need it, or should the weather get as bad as it did last year. They all kept their weight pretty well last year but my w/b got chucked out in all weathers so things could come in etc...

My friend is also in the doo doo at the moment and might need to move her horse, who will need to be in overnight in winter, so am looking at options which will allow me to do this.

Am I mad?

I can't view any pictures but if you have the space you could create an indoor barn area that could accommodate 2 or 3 horses in extreme winter conditions, rather than individual stables. Only works for horses that get on together though

I would be worried it would be carnage. I was thinking about old style stalls, that could be used for storage but cleared out if the horses needed to come in?

I think that sounds like a good idea, as long as you have somewhere to then move the stored stuff to sm x

old style stalls sound good, i think the winter is going to be cold so i would defo do something

If you used some 10 or 12 foot metal gates, and cover the gates with ply wood (fixed on with sturdy tie wraps), you can put hinges up on the walls and create temporary, changable stables, or just lean the gates up against the wall, when using the barn for storage. Just remember to cover any hinges that are not in use with a tennis ball, or some gamgee and duct tape etc so they cannot stick in anyone!

you might need planning for change of use. you could buy some towable on skids shelters to use? or you could put a roof on the block walls that dont seem to have a roof?
