Hi there, thought I would ask here if anyone has any experience.
Does a cremello stallion with blue eyes pass in blue eyes to offspring? If crossed with a chestnut mare. I know I’d get a palomino but I don’t really want blue eyes.
I’m guessing there’s a 50/50 chance?
Many thanks

No the blue eyes if a cremello won't be passed on, they occur in double dilutes that have 2 copies of the cream gene. One copy such as palomino or buckskins don't have blue eyes unless there is another white spotting gene in play such as splash.

Unless you are crossing with another dilute in which case you have a 50% chance of getting another cremello/double dilute

Great Thankyou. That’s good to know. I really like the look of a Welsh D cremello. And he is local to me xx

Welshies do through up the occasional blue eye but I'm not sure the gene is known. If you definitely don't want blue eyes I would check his pedigree for any non-dilutes with blue eyes 😊 there tends to be quite a lot of pictures of welsh ponies on all breeds.

I’ve known a lot of part blue eyed ponies. Everyone of them has been a bit spicy! 😆
Ours wasn't 'spicy' but he was very intelligent and had a warped sense of humour. Put down at 30 with cushings. I have vivid memories of my sister doing Ride and Run with him. He didn't approve of being led so she had to run very fast with his teeth snapping behind her. They usually won.
