Cressie Clague Reading and Carousel Quest have withdrawn from Badminton - anyone know why?

Hope its nothing serious and that they are fit and well again soon.

Your joking

She has withdrawn him from a few things lately one being the Grantham cup at Belton, but he ran at Hambledon I think.

Thats such a shame

Quite strange actually as he run at two events well, then was withdrawn from two one being the Grantham cup then run in a pre Novice (HC of course!) then withdrawn from hambledon int.

Hope hes ok he is still entered in for Nurstead

Time faults SJ? at Pn as well can only guess they are trying something new with him or there is a problem.

He was 4th in a 3* and I think he is very consistent.

She prefers to run him at lower levels in between the bigger stuff

He was 1st in a CCI**, 8th in a CIC**, 2nd in a CIC***, 4th in a CCI*** and 4th in a **** (burghley)

I wouldnt call that in consistent

I think he is a cracking horse

The horse has very weird form. Must be a bit difficult or need a lot of runs at a very low level to keep it sweet.

Weird form as in running at lower levels?

Because it certainly is consitent, I dont think it is a difficult horse, but yes maybe needs lots of low level runs, but different things work for different horses i spose

It is strange to drop back to PN level, especially from advanced level. But it obviously works for this horse and it produces the results. Cressida is probably doing whats best for horse that needs lots of confidence. Some horses are more careful than others and 4* is a big ask and I know many that have jacked it in after going and round just once.
Having seen him compete (and he won) he is a naturally careful horse rather than the gun ho type and maybe going down a few levels boosts his confidence.
However my mare is also the naturally careful type but if I dropped her below Int level it would be a kamikaze mission... can't think of anything more scary or horrific! I take her XC schooling instead.

Yes he is naturally careful but I think all hers are, she prides herself on her Sjing, and usually goes clear with all her horses.

Maybe he will run at Burghley again this year

I don't blame her- especially now XC courses are so technical and upright and the SJ is so big- you want to be sitting on something that is careful!

not sure why she's withdrawn but the horse is still relatively young! its obvious hes a bit special so Im sure shes thinking about preserving him and keeping his confidence up.

If dropping down to PN is the way to do it then why not, its obviously working for them.

There would have been several inputs into her final decision to withdraw so I'm sure there are good enough reasons, not necessarily that the horse is injured.

I agree, he is 10 I think so still young for a 4* horse. and obviously bringing him down to the lower levels helps him and he obvioulsy really performs at the higher events that count.

If he still runs at Nurstead this sat he obviously isnt injured which would be nice to know!

Such a shame as was looking forward to watching them, I love watching cressie ride think she us a fantastic rider. Oh well still pleased I get to see Toytown not seen him compete at a top comp yet

So do I, you're slightly biased though

what I mean is she is inconsistent in what level he runs at, how many other riders would take 4th place 3* then run at novice, there must be a reason behind it.

Yes and the reason is probably as previously discussed that he may lose confidence.

But I dont spose it matters what level he runs at in between does it, it is up to her as long as she is in the open sections or HC.

And I am only slightly biased maybe as I have been fortunate enough to see her ride at home and at events and see what a fantastic rider she is and what cracking horses she has

Is that the only reason Hol? nothing to do with owning a Carousel horse yourself

Nothing at all, and im being totally honest!

Didnt even cross my mind at 1st, thought she meant being biased as in because I have spent a bit of time watching her ride i.e. looking at horses going to watch her compete some horses last year etc.

But come to think of it my carousel horse is pretty cool too! but on a more serious note

I was more saying what a wonderful rider cressie is, and im sure she brings questy down to Pn/novice level as that is what suits him best and if it means he gets the results he does at 3*/4* level then who are we to say otherwise!

Good lord, do you run the Cressie Clague Reading Fan Club!

PMSL you dont have a T shirt saying I Love CCR do you

Personally ppl do with their horses what they will. Francis W took spin doctor to Smiths Lawn last year and was entered for the ON class. He had his reasons for doing this. Watched him go well in the OI at Hambledon last weekend.

Some horses need to have that confidence run every so often, if thats what she thinks her horses need then good on her. It works for some, not for others.

No I dont, but I appreciate dedicated and good riders, and she was a good help to me last year and I admire her riding.

All I was trying to stand up for was the fact that her horse is very talented and she obvioulsy knows him best, and just because he had a PN run doesnt mean he has "weird form" or is "inconsistent" Thats all rant over!!

I think I may get a t-shirt print though

I didn't say HE was inconsistent though. And it is a little odd to run a 4* horse PN.
