For those in the area which of the above is better?

I have been to Crewe (but wasnt looking for saddle then) but not Chester. I am looking for a new saddle for Baron, I have a few in mind but would like to have a look at them and get a little advice before getting the saddler to bring them out for me to try and get fitted.

I would like to know which is best for range of saddles and in store advice please

Chester have kept my friend waiting AGES for saddle. Crewe have tried to sell me a saddle that was too narrow, but to be fair their best saddle fitter wasn't in that day. David from Village Saddlery is quite good. So are Macclesfield Saddlery but they only have a small selection.

not been to chester
crewe have an excellent selection, "patches" has bought saddles from them in the past and i think has been pleased with them.
what about Derby House if you are on the Wirral?

I've bought and sold saddles to and from Chester. Was very pleased with the service & the saddles, but was let down by having to wait a million years for the money from the saddle i sold! Got there in the end though.
Only contact i've had with crewe is to phone & ask how much their call-out fee is for the master saddler. Cost waaaaayyyy too much because i'm not very close to them, so i went with Chester.
Village Saddlery in Warrington are meant to be very good, but again, very expensive call-outs!

For a saddle, Crewe is fabulous. They will either come to you, or you can box over to them for a fitting.

Customer service is great and the aftercare is equally as good. Haven't been to Chester, so I can't compare. Crewe do carry a heck of a lot of stock though on the shelf for you to have a look at and try out on your horse.

There is one good fitter at Crewe but I wouldn't bother if she's not available. They were ok with me and came out and tried a lot of jumping saddles on my horse at the time. Unfortunately though for various reasons I ended up selling my horse shortly after his saddle was delivered

and I spoke to her again as my new horse was a youngster and I wanted a saddle for him, pref. second hand but cheaper because he would obviously change shape. To be honest, I won't name names but the "good" saddle fitter wasn't at all helpful and didn't even ring me back, which after I had already spent a lot of money with then, really irritated me!!!

Not sure about Chester never used them, but just wanted to make you aware of my experiences with Crewe! I wouldn't use them again, they could have done a lot to help but didn't want to know.

I have bought all my saddles from Crewe ( 6 at last count) including one for my Warmblood who has very high withers and was difficult to accomadate. In my opinion they are excellent and I have never had any back problems caused by a saddle. Last saddle I bought I wangled some discount AND got a girth thrown in!!

Mine is very high withered too and is definatly going to be hard to fit.

I think I will go to Crewe, they seem to have more good than bad reports

Thanks everyone for the help.

The fitter came out with about 20 saddles! Whisk was getting a bit fed up by the end. Finally had to have an Albion made to measure for him but they did offer to lend me a saddle which fitted OK if not perfect while I waited.
