Hi,

I need some help regarding my horse crib biting he's taking chunks out of the back of his stable, I've been putting cribbox on religiously for the last week. But he's still doing it!
Has anyone used anything else that works?

any help would be lovely :)

my only suggestions would be as much turnout as poss....if he has to be stabled make sure he has plenty of fibre, so hay or haylage all of the time and if he has a feed make sure its mainly fibre, so mainly chaff or similar...hope this helps...

Are you using the paint on stuff or the thick waxy stuff? I found the paint was not effective but the waxy stuff worked a treat. Also would suggest a stable toy to distract.

Horses digestive systems means that they need to have forage through it all the time, and they are constantly producing stomach acid to digest food - regardless of if they have any food to it. If there is a chance your horses hay is running out before morning that would be something I'd definightly look to change.. Also anything else stressful that could be minimised. Hope you are able to resolve, Hannah

I have old conveyor belt topping the tops of my stable doors - its like thick bendy rubber. It helps protect his teeth and prevent damage :)

You can use carpet (inside out) too

I'm thinking of getting a patent for this but.... ;)

A coconut door mat cut into a long strip than nailed to the top of the door.
My horse cribs after treats or lots of attention (its his smoking habit) and was taking chunks out of the door. Tried cribox and mcnasty but eventually he didn't care.

However since the door mat went on, he hasn't touched it as the texture isn't nice and its too wide to get his teeth around.

Poor boy properly sulked at me for a few days afterwards though.. but now have a damage free door (and less worry for me)

Can i nick this before you get a patent??!! lol.

My boy only does it when I am there. Other people around the yard never ever see him cribbing. It is attention seeking but not because he is stuck in or I dont do anything with him. If i go down the yard and someone stops me to talk or anything he looks at me, sticks his head in the air and starts "yawning" (you can blatantly tell its not a proper yawn) and if that does not work he starts taking hold of the top of the door. However, if anyone else goes over when im not there and he is at the door he will not touch it and the owners are on site all the time and have never seen him when they have been around.
