A typical American, obese !
A typical American, obese !
wow look at how straight those hocks are!!! so glad my half quarter horse filly is not out of impressive!!!
Typical Brit, arrogant!
Actually, muscling is part and parcel of QH's, but that is obscene and I can't get my head around why people find it attractive, but obviously some folk do as there is a lot of money in Halter bred horses.
I don't condone the extreme halter horse breeding, I too think they look like beef cattle on steroids, but, not all QHs/Paints are like that, condemning the breed as a whole is like saying, ummm, let me think of an example, oh yes "A typical American, obese!" narrow minded and untrue. There are different strains, and like thoroughbreds and arabians, amongst others, they come in different shapes and sizes.
Impressive actually had more thoroughbred in him (by the Tb Three Bars) than QHhttp://www.allbreedpedigree.com/impressive6
Your girl's sire has Three Bars too, way, way back in his pedigree
HYPP : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperkalemic_periodic_paralysis
They are a parody of a good breed, just like modern leggy Friesians, dry faced arabians and a whole heap of others that are changing because of trends.
im confused, how can impressive be a qh if he has mostly tb in him? i thaught qh bred qh??? not up with all this stuff!
because the QH (like all american breeds) is a man made breed and are mostly made up of other breeds, there were no horses in America until the Spaniards landed.
I agree not all QHs are like the one in this picture, he is specifically bred for the halter classes I would think. HYPP could be stopped in it's tracks if people stopped breeding from Impressive lines, sadly the halter people seem to like the beef cow look
There are a number of videos on YouTube showing horses in the middle of HYPP attacks, it is not pretty.
so does that mean my 50% qh is a qh then.![]()
so how can impressive be a qh if he is only 50% qh and 50% tb. surely that would make him a pb?
I know it's just a snapshot and I know I am Miss Laminitis this week (obsessed) but it looks porky with a laminitics stance on that specific pic (covers backside)
Simply hideous.
It is steroids - just like the pit bull scene in America. All muscle building steroid use. I am not well up on the USA laws on steroids in horses though - could anyone please enlighten me?
so HYPP is a mutational gene? and although some people breed for this specific 'look' (if you can call it that!) its not 'meant' to be? such as these horses aren't worked/fed/steriods to get them this way?
I didnt even know about this until I read this thread and although disgusted by it all, strangely fascinated!
PJ is an AQHA RWC and would be a great cross on your NH, HH, and NN mares.
I only know of it really as fuglyblog used to bring it up a fair bit, think it was one of old fugly's bugbears.
Anyone breeding from an HH mare is irresponsible imo as is suggesting it.
I wonder if there are any rules on breeding N/H to N/H if there were then at least it would die out slowly, obviously if everyone started breeding only N/N to N/N there would be no problem at all![]()
The only way it would die out is if any of their N/H offspring were removed from a breeding program... Absolutely
I suppose the big question would be whether there'd be enough diversification of any available gene pool using N/N horses only to maintain the breed...![]()
