Ok so yesterday,as the jumps were up I decided to do a bit of jumping. Years ago, when i had my pony, all I used to do really was jump and i was confident. Used to do 3ft no problem. However, i haven't really jumped in years and am feeling quite underconfident. I don't really feel 100% comfortable jumping my share horse in case I break him or something

Anyway, yesterday i decided to have a go......and it was AWFUL! It got better as i did more, but honestly...arghhh! I just seem to have lost my ability to jump. I had a horrible moment and nearly fell off for first time in 6 years! I lost my stirrup a couple of strides away from jump and frantically tried to get it back but couldn't, we were too near to stop so i knew i was just gonna have to go with it. Anyway, i stayed on but ended up nearly coming off and landed on his neck! I pulled both my calf muscles and it HURT! Got back on and did some more though but i was so embarassed and a bit annoyed

Just feel like i've lost all confidence and ability to jump

Anyway here's some videos of me jumping yesterday, (MY OH was filming so they're not brilliant lol) they're only tiny jumps but i still managed to muck up in parts, if anyone could give me some advice, tips i'd be really grateful. I'm thinking of maybe going to a RS or something for a few jumping lessons?

Any CC, no matter how harsh would be good, need some advice until i can get some lessons!

Oh yes, from looking at these videos i can see my stirrups need to go up another couple of holes, opps

, thought i'd shortened them enough. Thanks, i hope so, i used to love it!

Agree with the shorter stirrups.
Think you will be well away with a bit more practise and confidence, it looks like your horse is a real honest type as well which really helps.
Well done

Hi

First of all you aren't anywhere near as bad as you seem to think!

I would say that you are trying too hard to fold into a jump position. Just sit up and let the jump come to you more. if you don't you will come off if the horse stops, and also unbalance him.

At this kind of height don't even think about a jump position. Just tip forwards slightly over the jump so you stay with him.

I have the same problem - I don't sit up after a jump, so my RI had me lengthen my stirrups 2 holes from my normal flat length and jump like that, so I had to stay deep and couldn't overfold!

But really, you aren't at all bad!

Wow. You think that's bad, you should see me after x number of years break from jumping

Let's just say, as I go over, my body is the distance away from the saddle as the stirrup length will allow (all the way round, is scary: poor horse, can see him thinking "Where is she?" and trying to get himself in the right place to catch me)

You just keep on going hun, you're doing well

Not too bad!!
stirrups need to go up a couple of holes, don't over jump with your upper body, let the jump come to you and a more secure lower leg ( which will be easier with stirrups shorter)

No CC but i do sympathise with the jumping thing! I used to LOVE jumping when I was about 14, but then I took a break from riding for a few years, have just got back into it and i simply cannot seem to do it...I know my loan pony loves jumping and has no problems, so one day I just bit the bullet and thought right i'm just gonna get over myself - and we were jumping 3'3 and i was on such a high afterwards.

Be brave, even if you're positions not right (like mine isn't at the moment, just doesn't seem to be happening!) you can work on your confidence so that's one less thing to worry about.

I was expecting a much worse performance than that from your comments ! Jumping isnt my thing, so no CC from me, except to say that shorter stirrups would help

but your horse is lovely and your school looks amazing.
