crochet fly bonnets for big heads and wide ears??

I am on the hunt for crochet fly bonnet to fit my chunky monkey, bought a hkm large bonnet but it isn't quite wide enough in the head or ears. Can anyone help me avoid collecting bonnets that don't quite fit please??

I would probably try to do it free hand as I find patterns frustrating but here's one that looks quite simple http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_8410401_crochet-fly-bonnets.html

If you don't know how to do the stitches there are lots of good YouTube videos which is where I learnt it. I like the channel called howcastArtsRec. I learnt most of the stitches in a couple of evenings and at least the materials are cheap to give it a try!

I am dubious to follow patterns that have no picture, there are some very dodgy ones out there! I think you have to sew in fabric ears too as it reads as if there are just ear holes. I can see I am heading towards collecting ready made ones -wimping out I know

I find the schockemole fly bonnets to be rather generous, especially around the ears, and the Whitaker ones more true and snug to size. The way I look at them is that if I can fit my fist into the ear of the bonnet and it feels snug then I know it will fit. If there it's lots of room around my fist then I know it will be far too big. Hope that makes sense? Lol

USG are great for big ears and wide heads! The HKM didn't fit my mare at all but the USG has stretchy ears and lots of give across the head, fits perfectly! Also comes in loads of colours and not expensive on ebay

My mom got me a EquiTheme one and it fits my mare who has enormous ears - it has stretchy ears and loads of space otherwise and isn't ridiculously expensive
