hi

I really need your help!!! my horse is brillent in ever way expect he is crocked on the left rein. it is most overious in canter and he tends to fall in though his shoulder! it not as bad in trot. he got an amazing canter on the right rein and he got a lot of scope, but im finding it hard to jump off of the left rein as we struggle to get straight!!! he is only 5 and has always been slightly crocked, but it becoming more overious as we ask more of him!!1 sorry i know it long any ideas???

thanks

Are you sure you're sitting straight on that rein? I am worse on my left side than my right and am very aware i can have a tendency to sit crooked myself on that rein. have you tried lungeing him whilst you're sat on him to make sure you're body is staying straight.

He probably just needs to do alot more balancing in himself - is his trot working well enough? Best always to get a nice rhythym established at trot first I find to get their balance and work at making sure they are using their back end correctly.

It will come eventually, will help to have someone watch you though and tell you if your body is not straight!

All horses are natuarally slightly crooked just like their riders but you have to train them to be muscled more evenly and to carry their weight equally on both hind legs. I use shoulder in or travers (which once you have mastered in walk and trot you can use in canter) to straighten a crooked horse. If he falls in on the left rein, use travers to push his shoulders out and bring his quaters in. If his shoulder falls out then use shoulder in. If you aren't used to riding shoulder in or travers it'd be well worth you having a couple of lessons to help you get the best out of this exercise.

thanks will give them a try, i do have lesson on him so when i have lesson i am sitting striaght, and am not aware that i crocked. thanks again
