We decided to brave the weather on saturday and make the trip to Crockstead for BSJA.

For those who have been following the story, Bo has recently come back from an extended period out of action due to a Check Ligament injury.

Well, we decided to go for the 1m Amatuer qualifier and the 1.05m Open...

We didn't spend long warming up for the 1m as there weren't many in it. We also spent a while navigating 'Lake Crockstead' in the warm-up which was good practice for any BE we might be intending to do next year, but other than that it was uneventful. We went in to jump, and Bo was (unusually for him) relaxed entering the ring. However, once in he forgot i was there and felt very distracted

We came round to the first and he threw a paddy...just after the start line
mad.gif
So, i turned him around and we came again. The rhythm wasn't great and he really didn't feel like he was bothered...and we ended up having two further poles......So...on the whole very disappointing and very frustrating

We then did the 1.05m Open....which after walking it felt more like a 1.10m

We warmed up more thoroughly this time, and although Bo twattted about going into the ring, he then proceeded to jump a near flawless round
grin.gif
I got him slightly deep into number 6 and just rolled it, but apart from that it was a very good round...and in a lovely rhythm. So, four faults....and starting to think that anything under 1.05m /1.10m is probably doing us no good at all

Frustrating......and a little annoying as we have the Star qualifier next sunday.......having done nothing of note for about 6 months now

....

Got a lesson tomorrow night....let's hope the trainer can put her finger on the problem.....FAST !

Did you say BE!???? *goes into shock*

Seriously though, sounds like Bo is well on way to being back, anything smaller than 1.05m was obviously an insult!!

He has obviously decided the bigger tracks are for him pleased it is all back on track.
Are you doing the star qualifier at Arena UK??

Noooo....we're at Golden Cross on sunday

Good luck for the Star, I might be there

Do you feel he is behaving better now than when he first came back, have the eventing lessons helped?

Ah, thats something I have also decided. Took Ed unaff SJ (it was local). Jumps looked so small I kind of switched off. Didn't actually start to engage brain until the 1mtr.

LOL!

Yes, the 'eventing' lessons are definitely helping....just in terms of giving us both back the confidence that we had lost if nothing else. I think Bo will always be prone to throwing his toys out of the pram from time to time...in fairness he's often jumped his best rounds when he has been like that
shocked.gif
The only slight concern i still have is where has the consistency gone...he used to never touch a pole, but is now regularly having a pole or even two in a round
tongue.gif
Okay, some of them are down to me...but not all. He really doesn't feel like he's trying the way he used to...although it gets better when the fences go up a bit.

Bo is still being slightly unhelpful at times isnt he
smirk.gif

Sounds like that hes coming slowly back into form tho.
Frustrating as it might be, rolling the odd pole is more forgiving than his temper tantrams. The last round sounds very promising for the Star Qualifier tho
smile.gif

Good luck

LOL! Very diplomatically put
grin.gif

Strangely though, i'd rather have the tantrums and know that he was going to leave the fences up....am i just crazy
crazy.gif

HAHA No! I understand that, I know when winston is playing silly buggers and pulling me around and being a git, that he gives the most amazing feel over a fence
smile.gif

Its when I have a lazy bones on the end of my reins I know im in for a bumpy ride

Hi Rambo

Thing you gotta look at is at your last show he was being a bugger and napping badly if i rememebr rightly. At least this time round he only had a few poles and kept the naughtiness to a minimum so he is getting better!!

Hopefully the Star next week will be his turning point

Hi Kelly...

Well, nearly...the last time he was out was 2 weeks ago and he went quite well (at Crockstead again!) just having 4 faults in each class ! This almost feels like a regression...well the 1m does anyway
frown.gif
He had one really nappy show at RL in mid-jan, then slightly better at GC the next week, then much better the next week at Crockers, and then this show just gone. Will have to hope now for this sunday.....lol!

The thing is, before the summer, i could count the poles he'd had in a season on one hand...now he's having them with alarming regularity
tongue.gif

I must of missed a few shows then coz i think the really nappy show at RL was the last one I read about (not sure why
confused.gif
) so thats why i thought he was getting better.

Maybe he does feel better jumping bigger tracks and thats why he is not putting as much effort in then??

Its just typical of Bo to keep you on your toes LOL
tongue.gif

Lux went through a stage like this for months, then Vicky gave him all of Dec and Jan off from SJing and he came back great but Bo HAS had time off so its slightly strange.

Hopefully now your gonna be jumping bigger again it will be onwards and upwards
