We recently purchased some land that was used for crops last year (I can't remember what), it has been ploughed, weeded, seeded (this all happened between April and late June/early July). We now have a healthy coverage of grass, I know the grass should be allowed 9-12 months to establish its roots. But do I need to be worried about pesticides?

We are regularly mowing it promote new growth :)

Do you mean pesticide residue in the soil from the previous crop spraying? I think it will reduce the biodiversity of the soil, but shouldn't harm the horses, any more than use of these poisons harm the rest of us....Congratulations of getting your own land, pasture management is very satisfying, and you'll never be bored!
