Cross Breeds....

I have no problems with cross breeds, you always see lovely ones about. I do however have a problem with designer crossbreeding. You must be mad to pay £800 upwards for what is effectively a mongrel.

I was called a breed snob by a guy I work with as I said I would never consider anything less than a well (working) bred dog for out on the shooting field.

i have 2 rescue crossbreeds, but due to what they're crossed with they are classed as lurchers

please people consider rescue dogs as pets before you run to breeders, you can get dogs that have been dumped a home and they dont cost nearly as much, just a small donation to a rescue (£75-£125 is the average adoption fee compared to the £250+ for a breeders dog)

Thanks

If you have your heart set on a certain breed AND want to help a rescue dog, why don't you contact the breed club who can put you in touch with the breed rescue!! Most breeds have them and you'd be killing two birds with one stone.

Sorry to butt in, but my SIL rescued a Jack Russell/Dachshund last month. Mother and puppies had been left by the side of the road to die

Why don't you use heartworm medication Prose?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because Interceptor and Heartgard have both been linked to immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) and immune mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP), as well as there been growing evidence of links to certain cancers.

The all-natural mosquito, tick, flea repellant we use has been excellent thus far.

Hi Prose, sorry, off topic a little...........just out of interest what natural repellant do you use? Lots of very fierce mossies here and anything is worth a try.

Crossbreeds, purebreeds? I have one of each, the farm dog came with the house and we have been told that he is a Bouvier/hound/collie mix, fabulous dog. The other is a GSD, his pedigree and papers are a sore point at the moment.

If I was looking for a dog as a pet/companion then I would have no problem with a cross breed and would be more than happy to rescue one.

To apply to skin, we use either neem oil or Burt's Bees Insect Repellant. I use the Burt's Bees and wasn't bitten once this summer, which is a miracle in Montauk and the dense woods of CT.

For ticks, we use this; for fleas, this , both from Earth Animal.

I would definately go for a rescue. Here are my 2 rescues. Gimzo was picked up as a stray and Millie was rehomed for biteing and being unsocialzed, they bought her as a puppy and only kept her a week!! Millie does agaility and has her Kennel club Gold and Gimo has his sliver. They are also both Pets as Therapy dogs and go visting a residential home.

It is so rewarding to take on a rescue dog and there are sooo many put to sleep each year that are perfectly healthy.
