I Heard someone mention a "pay-as-you-go" cross country course in Gilberdyke, near Goole/Howden. Anyone else heard of it or know any info on it?! It's very close to me and I'd love to have a go.

yep - there are two over that way somewhere.

One is called Manor Farm (think that is the Gilberdyke one) lots of different fences, with some beginner ones & some bigger ones some up to about 3'6 I think. Water jump is fab.

I was there about 6 weeks ago. It's 12 pounds and takes about 3 hours in total. (depends how fast you go of course)Well worth it!

Yes its called Manor XC, lovely circular course with a mixture of ever changing XC jumps and a good water complex, the track/jumps are well kept well maintained.

The owners are lovely, they have wash down facilities so you can hose off afterwards, hard standing car park and static caraven that you can go in, sign in/pay and look at some pictures of the jumps so you know where your going etc, sometimes the lady even makes you a drink and supplies you with her home baking...and give you a bun, how nice is that!

Your best of ringing them before you set off to make sure they know your coming...they dont like too many of you on the course in one go if you know what I mean, which is good, plus you can go round as many times as you like. Sometimes they have the pony clubs there too. Its great

Fab! I'll be on the phone this weekend!!
Although have just read that the Active Rider camp at Bishop Burton this weekend is not fully booked, so am trying to presuade myself to go/not to go!! Eek! Am terribly unfit (as is the nag) and £200 is quite a lot for the weekend, espeically when i can ride at home for free, as my hubby says!! Oooo dilemma!

I'm sure you'll still have a good time at BB....but yes your horse does need to be fit, at least at Manor XC you can potter along at your own leasure and have play at each jump etc but can just walk/trot to each one.

Sod it...just do both!
