Hi all
Am looking to start doing some xc with my boy and want us to look the part however it seems most xc sets are around £70-100! I can't justify this so does anyone have any suggestions of where to get a top/silk/saddlecloth combo on a budget? Or if you can do a diy version? Haha

Thanks!

I've just picked up a smAll mans rugby shirt in mountain warehouse for £7.99 reduced from £40 I've got a hat silk ordered of ebay for £9.99 and my saddle cloth is navy blue so I'm going to use that (top is navy blue and bottle green)

My teenage daughter wears a navy polo shirt with white 'skin' or baselayer underneath, has a navy saddlecloth, white jodphurs and either her normal navy velvet hat cover or a navy and white striped silk - this was only thing that we bought specially. Regular black gloves and boots. She always looks very smart :)

Just wear a jumper! No one is judging what you are wearing.

This. I wear whatever's clean. My silk is navy and most of my riding tops have navy in them so I just wear one of those. Your body protector will hide most of your top anyway. My BP is also navy (can you tell I like navy?) but I wouldn't care if it wasn't. He just wears his normal (brown) numnah or (shock horror!) if it's a ODE and I can't be a***d to change it his white dressage cloth.

I much, much prefer the understated xc look anyway. Esp for adults/older kids. And as stated above, your bp will hide most of it. Only my 7 year old has pink and purple matchy matchy!

The only time my daughter ever wore a "proper" XC top and silk was when she was competing for her PC. Otherwise any longsleeved top and saddlecloth will do.

Keep an eye on ebay, I've literally just sold a CustomXC set, I priced it at £40 which I thought was a fair price and it sold within 12 hours, happy buyer and seller! If you save the search ebay will notify you when new items are listed and that way you can be pro active in bidding.

Decathlon have some bright coloured ski baselayer tops for about £5 each which are quite warm and would look ok. They also come in black, white and royal blue if you didn't fancy lime green or orange.
