Life is never dull is it? Took Rose up to Newton at the weekend for a spot of cross country with a friend as we have entered the unaffiliated one day event at Shelford this month and I wanted to make sure we had done some prep! Had an absolutely brilliant time, both the horses thoroughly enjoyed themselves and Rose surprised me with her gung ho attitude (normally she is spooky as anything and has trouble cantering in a straight line out on hacks as she's so busy jinking from side to side at scary grass) and how lovely and forward she was. Tackled a bit of everything from coffins, ditches, tables, tyres and drops and she was brilliant in the water as well.
looking pretty (Rose, not me)
Sporty Rose
Excuse the face on this, she basically dragged me through the tree on the right hand side
Then I stupidly decided that I wanted to tackle a corner (which admittedly was tiny). Rose isn't great with narrow jumps and tends to look for a way to duck out so the first attempt was a bit of a mess. Put her at it again and came in trot and she popped it. Went to trot over it the other way just to make sure before we finished and she did this:
It felt like we were in the air forever as the ground on the landing side slopes away slightly. Came down from orbit and smacked my nose on her neck and my knuckles also hit her neck. Managed to pull up (while seeing stars!) and saw that my left little finger was starting to swell. I thought "please not again!" as I've broken the little finger on my right hand twice now. Got back to the box and drove back to the yard all the while praying it was just dislocated or sprained. Went to the minor injury unit the next day and got x-rayed and yes, it's broken. So this was how I ended up:
So no riding for a few weeks, no Shelford ODE and showering with a plastic bag on my hand awaits! The Lord giveth and he taketh away!
Still, could have been worse and my horsey friends have been fantastic and offered to keep Rose ticking over for me so hopefully there will be chances later in the year.
