What are your thoughts on this horse as an event sire? Is he producing the goods? He looks a smashing type of horse and I love the way he is bred- crossed with a TB mare he would make a really nice tough event type I think? My only concern is that there only seems to be a very small handfull have gone eventing and the rest are all showjumpers? Perhaps the progeny were too carefull? Or such good showjumpers that they were too good to go eventing

Any thoughts/positives/negatives?! I am thinking of crossing him with my TB mare next year, to produce an eventer to go at least 2 star.. She requires this type of stallion , ( I cant find any others that are quite physically right for her ) and she also needs her trot improving on.

Nice horses however he just hasn't REALLY produced the goods as an event sire and IMO there are better stallions out there by far... He is the sire of The Tourmaline Rose however she was the only real progeny of his that stands out in my mind as a decent eventer, and even she would possibly have not been able to hold her own against the better bred ones that are around today.
He is half Lusitano, which is obviously where the movement that you seek is coming from, however I would say that he is a better SJing than an eventing stallions and you would be better off looking at other stallions whose pedigrees are maybe a bit more dressage focused if this is an area that your mare needs improving on.
The Sandro Hit stallion Deanes San Ciro Hit would likely cross well with TB mares as he has the jumping and dressage lines bred into him and is himself competing at Advanced medium level dressage and will be eventing next season.

I quite like him too. What sort of mares has he had (and how many?) Is it possible that his unusual breeding has discouraged eventing breeders from using him, and that he hasn't had the mares he needs?

I suppose this is where we need NED.

I see what you say AlleyCat, however at 25 yrs old, you would think he would have produced more than one or two halfwqay decent eventers, especially after all the publicity he received after Tourmaline Rose did so well with the Eventers GP's.

having seen him in person, he is stunning, and his temp and manners are amazing!
i think i would use him to produce eventers but prob only on a mare with a lot of blood.
i think he has been used to produce mainly sj's tho so far, but thats not to say he wouldnt produce eventers either! i know he was standing at end house at trudys, where there were a few other event sires with proven event records so perhaps they took the best mares?
his movement is to die and i have spoken to a few people who have offspring by him and they love them. i think he throws a bold honest temperament from what i can gather, and i reckon that gets you a long way eventing!
