Hi, just wondering if anyone had any information or experience with a horse with a cruciate ligament injury? My 13yr old 14.2 mare was diagnosed with this injury back in january and after ultrasounds and xrays and lots of rest has just come back in to walking work. She feels good and her normal bouncy self to me but the vet is very negative about how much she will improve and feels that the future only holds alot of walking for her! Has anyone had a horse with this injury and what kind of work did they end up being able to do? I've had her for seven years and she has been the best pony a girl could ask for so will be staying with me whatever the prognosis but information on this kind of injury is hard to find so i'd be grateful for any!! thanks xx

I don't have a happy ending story I'm afraid :( my pony went lame quite a while ago now, very sore to flex. She blocked to stifle and her xrays showed cruiciate ligament damage and the beginnings of arthritis. She had the joint medicated but never came sound. I hacked her in walk only for about 9 months then decided to retire her. She was 24 at the time so was probably due her retirement! I have heard more successful story's- try doing a search on here, but my ponys prognosis was never good :( good luck with your pony.

My horse was lame and blocked to stifle, didnt go down the arthroscopy route so don't know what was damaged just that it was stifle,he had it medicated and was rested then gradually increased exercise,he was sound and back in full work including jumping but now has a ddft injury (different leg) :( i too was given a guarded prognosis as apparently stifles are diffucult to treat but we did get there in the end.good luck,I hope yours recovers.
