Cruciate ligament op today

Some of you may remember that I posted before Christmas about my lame Westie, and suggested she may have a patella problem (sorry can't remember exactly what it's called).

Anyway she went to the vet who diagnosed a mild cruciate sprain & she's been on cage rest & light exercise since, but has been getting progressively worse over the last couple of weeks & hasn't really been putting any weight on it at all :(

OH took her to vet again this morning & he's going to X-ray & operate on her today. OH is a big softie, and has just rung me to tell me what's happening but then started crying :( poor chap, he really worries about things, whereas I just assume everything will be fine.

Anyway, fingers crossed that it's all going to go well - pointless post really, just wanted to share!

Still hopefully she will be able mended soon and back to bouncing around:D there are a few on here that have had their dogs cruciates operated on - Mattilda and CAYLA spring to mind and they have all gone on to make a full recovery:)

Bless your OH:) she will be sore when she arrives home but will have had her fill of pain relief....lots of rest from here on out, the more strict the rest the quicker the recovery and the better the recovery, then slow built up exercise and hydro is fab to build the muscle back up. She is only little so should cope alot better than the biggies like my akita and rotti who have both had theirs done.
 
Thanks all for your thoughts, and thanks for the link Pauline, Pulborough is really close to us, but we've been told there's also one in Angmering which is literally down the road. Definitely be taking her, although she's not keen on water, so it might be a struggle :D

:o I don't know - I'm working today, the OH took her in.

I'm actually not even sure he knows, as the vet said he would X-Ray and then operate - he was fairly certain it was cruciate (as was I from the beginning) so wanted OH's consent to do surgery immediately if it was - definitely better than going under 2 GA's, so we agreed to it.

He said she should be able to get out on the lead immediately, and from what I know of horses (although different I know), controlled exercise is good for building the muscle back up.
 
Thanks again Pauline - you're a mine of information :) That looks like a lovely pool - wonder if I'll be able to take her & have a swim at the same time ;) :D

Good news about the insurance - yes, she is insured thank goodness, the vet's quoted about £1,400 to have the op done :eek: I will tell OH that it's covered as well.

Going to ring OH now & make sure he's holding up OK
 
I hope the op goes well and your dog makes a good recovery.

Both mine have niggling problems with their Cruciate Ligament, but its not so severe yet that the vet wants to operate.

Rehab would be great if you can organise it, do let me know how things go. x
