Cruciate Ligament Surgery

Yes with a Bernese Mountain dog. First one at 3 yo and second a year or so later. Was also a rescue so not sure whether the old owners had managed her well as a puppy which may have had some bearing on why they both went so young. Recovered well but then got kidney cancer and was pts at age 6. It's a lot of rehab but worth it with a younger dog. Not sure I'd put a 9 year old through it tbh.

My doggo (RIP) had the surgery when he was about 4. The most difficult part was keeping him from jumping on the furniture during recovery. The surgeon also told me at the time to start saving for another one.

I’m so glad I listened because he went through it again at 6.

The surgeries were straightforward and he recovered just fine.

@silv how did your dog do please? Our 9 year old dog is looking like she has just done hers ☹️
She is absolutely fine, never lame. The senior vet at the practice did not recommend surgery due to her age and said it may well improve with rest and time and it surely did. She is still coming out hacking with me at the age of approx 12, don't know her real age as she was a rescue.

I've got a recent thread about the surgery and people have given really helpful replies so it might be worth looking it up.
Slightly different as my dog hasn't done/ruptured hers, she was actually diagnosed with cruciate ligament disease so one vet recommended surgery before the ligament went but after speaking to the specialist we were recommended conservative treatment for now.

Sorry to hear about your dog.
