Crufts 2019, sorely tempted

Seems the hatchet job done on the cavalier will take a very long time to recover from even health testes MRI checked and heart tested dogs have lost popularity, Love a good cavalier and would be my toy dog of choice but again the barking would get to me we used to breed them so have owned quite a few over the years

The barking drives me insane lol - for show dogs it comes from certain lines, some of the ones I know hardly bark at all and some yap all the time 😄

one of my friends lost one young cavalier due to heart problems and the one that is left is now 8 and has cost her a fortune with heart and digestion problems and she says when he goes she will never have another because she cant stand the heartache, she got a crossbreed after losing her first cav ,and he has been very healthy so far.

She should get one from my mum lol - 14 years is average 😊

My friend has one approaching 15 still winning veterans classes and is a lovely girl. All of my breeding lived into their teens and all were kind loving little dogs. They did bark though which is why I dont like noisy dogs now. My near neighbour has a collie cross that is really irritating as it barks non stop when it goes out which is every 4 hours day and night

My cavalier hardly ever barked infact I totally failed to teach her to speak on command (something I taught all my other dogs to do) I think I only ever heard her bark 4 times in her life. She was 14 when she died

I think looking at up to date lifespan stats is a very good indication on how the breeds are doin regarding health issues. Obviously some breeds naturally have shorter lifespans. My Scottie was 13 and a half, Westie was 14 and JRT was 17.

Where do you get that information please

well i thought the scottie was lame behind or being dragged too quick for his little legs, i didnt like him at all, but really liked the westie, i think i tend to go for the happy looking dogs rather than conformation..i also liked the podengo, he or she also looked like a happy fun dog..

I totally fell in love with that podengo!

The podengo does seem like a terrier in hounds clothing though given that their original job rather matches that of a lot of terriers!

I had quite a long talk with a couple of the ladies on the podengo stand in discover dogs at Crufts. I quite fancied one but they put me off by saying they were terrible hunters and needed to have very well fenced gardens or they would disappear regularly!
