Crufts 2026 roll call

I know a few people on here do Discover Dogs , just curious as to what the criteria is for dogs to take part . Some dogs were obviously loving their role , including bc’s little guy , but some looked really uncomfortable. One in particular bothered us , a 6 month old pup, tail tucked , ears back who was obviously hating it , yet it was made to stand on a table at the front of the stand and was pushed towards people , just why .

Many are who you know and how much you are involved in the breed society. Also a lot of them will actively show - a lot of the dogs will be in the show ring at some point during crufts.
 
Probably different for us, as a numerically small breed the organiser can personally know all of the dogs that will be attending, so I'm curious how it works for the more popular breeds. But yes, everyone on our roster is a breed club member and the dogs well used to a show environment, it tends to be the same lot each year.

Mine is not the most effusive with strangers but I'm as sure as I can be that he will be polite and tolerant. He was a good boy. 😊

We’re a very numerically small breed. In all of the newsletters we ask for people, who have dogs who are happy, confident and happy in a bustling environment to volunteer for these sorts of breed promotion events.

We do tend to have a core number of people who have done it before and whose dogs absolutely love the limelight. But anyone who thinks their dog would enjoy it are very welcome to join the team! The more the merrier!

We wouldn’t want any dog on the stand who doesn’t enjoy it. My two have both been doing it ever since they were old enough to. They’re totally relaxed and are happy to nip to the back of the pen for a snooze/recharge when required before waking up and greeting their public again!

Exactly the same here! I know all of our breed representatives and am confident they’ll behaving a ball 😊
 
Your replies are how I would expect it to work. A few years ago I did a few meet the breed stands at game fairs with my Lancashire heeler . The breed club asked for volunteers but stressed that dogs must be happy and confident to meet people and be fussed. Not rocket science is it.
On a plus point it was good to see a really nice working line shepherd on the GSD stand as well as a show line, and both dogs were loving the fuss.

Wow. That was insane. I don’t think I actually got all the way round (got there at 10.30 as had to do school run in opposite direction)

Bought the dog 2 toys and have signed my data to 1,000,000 in return for treats.

I didn’t even find any agility.

Found the Border Terrier stand in DD and spent ages talking to a chap who lost his old BT at the same age and time as mine. Saw the BoB for BT too and have realised mine could do with less food more exercise 🤣

Seriously???? OK not my breed but I wouldn't have considered using that at stud in a million years!

Huge winner in the breed too
 
Had my first ever trip to crufts today and loved it, we spent loads of time chatting to discover dogs people - unsure if anyone was H&H! Agree some of the dogs in DD looked quite stressed but we just avoided adding to their crowding and they were the minority.

Thought the shopping was ok, but didn’t really buy anything, spent a lot of time at rings, demonstrations then the main arena.
 
yes, it did the initial go round then was withdrawn but they never said why.

International dog so long way to travel to then leave/presume no conflict of interest with judge- know that came up as a thing re the GSD until it was clarified that was vet.

I watched the hound judging on tv, in the back ground, i thought that I could see a Basset Hound but they didn't show any ?

He was supossed to be shown after the petit Basset Griffon Vendeen but they moved straight to the next one ?

Could he have been spun by the vet at the last minute ?

It doesn't matter really but I am just curious, thank's if anyone knowns.

My favorit for Sunday is the Tibetan Mastiff on Sunday ! He is just magnificent !
 
On fb (the gospel of truth) they said it was because his willy and chest were pretty well on the ground. I thought yay to sense.
But now I see it wasn’t anything as smart as that 🙄
