Ah it is easy - stand four square, wag tail, look cute :) The puppy that is.... :p

:p

He can just about hold it together on the table but he's a sod on the move. Had a cuddle with dad today and was told that the sod-ness is genetic... *tears out hair*

I sincerely doubt that anyone but me is interested but in light of earlier fit for function discussion - during tomorrow's Ch 4 coverage there will be a short section about working Siberians from a well known dual purpose kennel including some footage of racing/training.

He is a lovely flatcoat, and enjoying every minute of his show. What a disappointment that will be to those at PETA who think dog showing is cruel. Having got to know a couple of flatcoats at the agility club I go to I really like them, sadly they do seem to have a problem with cancer :(

Always such happy dogs whatever you ask them to do.

Yes MM I lost my first one to bone cancer at the age of 8. The Flatcoated Retriever Society are doing alot of research into it, I sent my dogs xrays into the Cambridge Vet School.

My friend lost one at a similar age. One of the bitches she was showing at Crufts today went lame just over a week ago, she said she felt absolutely sick as that was the first symptom with her old bitch, thank heavens it was just a tweak and as her results show today she is fine now.

Thank goodness for a happy result MM. I knew nothing about bone cancer at the time but the vet was very concerned from the moment I went in. It was a terrible shock. Luckily all my others have lived into teens so far since then.

Hurrah for Flatcoats..... the best!!!!!

Well done satinbaze.

Thank you everyone. I was so pleased with Tiva as it was a big class with 27 entered ( yearling bitch) and Tiva kept showing righ to the end and she moved round the ring with such drive. She was the highest placed all english breeding in the class.
The dog that won the gundog group is a real showman and although owned by a swede he is English bred.
Very tired but happy owner, handler and pupster. Will be there again tomorrow to watch a friend handling a Tibetan mastiff

Yes sb I was pleased the winner was English bred. You must admit that flatcoats are a great breed to show as they are so enthusiastic and happy about everything they do.

So when you refer to English bred, are the main lines from another country? I always thought of flatcoats as being a British breed.

There are a lot of import dogs being brought in or being used at stud. This is good for genetic diversity as long as all health issues are known. A number of Scandinavian dogs carry PRA compared to UK dogs. The Scandinavian dogs are quite "flashy" rather than workman like and the Scandinavians tend to strip out the necks a bit like a setter.
Lily is half Norwegian and half English and tends to appeal to the all rounder judges whereas Tiva is all English and appeals to the breed specialist.
Both types have their merits and it is personal interpretation of the breed standard.
Jet who went best in show 3 years ago was UK bred in fact bred in Scotland
I am just so pleased with Tiva who is still asleep this morning

Well done Satinbaze! My boys watched a video of their dad coming 4th in the open. Agree Dublin is a fabulous advertisement for the breed - totally goofy but a real workman when it counts.

And it was, fantastic Sally and Ali are some of the most experienced sibe owners/workers/breeders in this country I've always coverted one of their dogs lol

Did any one watch us ?!? Trailrunners at 3.10 on Friday.
