Crumbling hooves

My lad's hooves have become very dry and brittle over the last few weeks. Any ideas on how I can help prevent this getting worse?

He is fed a feed balancer so should be getting all the nutrients he needs.

mine was fed top spec and I saw no diff, have also fed F4F which didn't help though I know does some I have had good results with naf profeet supp

I was using cornecrescine 2 days a week and the naf hoof rub on others days. On recommendation of thefarrier on here I have just started using hoof heal 3 times a week.
 
Pine tar is what my farrier recommened and a hoof supplement from Horse First. The Pine tar is more liquified then the stockholm so much easier to apply. Its much better then any other hoofointment and has antibacterial function. Just put it all over the hoof except the coronary band. It really works as we had a couple of horses in our yard with awful feet, some very brittle and mine gaot white line disease with the wet weather. It improved rapidly. Start by using it every day then reduce to 2/3 a week. Th supplement works very well too and is one of the best value on the market. My Farrier has tried lots of different things and found this to be the best economical one. Farriers Formula is very good to but quite expensive. My lads feet improved within 4 weeks. He has gone back to his original size hoof again(went down a size) and I can also leave between 6-8 weeks between shoeings again. Used to be barely 4 weeks when really brittle. This all in the space of 6 months.
 
Take the shoes off. Your horse will then develop enough blood supply in his foot to regulate the moisture in the hoof wall from inside, where it is supposed to. No hoof dressings necessary!
 
My pony normally has excellent feet even during dry summers but this year I've had crumbly edges on the front feet and bits coming away where old nails have been when he's re-shod. My farrier has said it's due to the wet/dry wet/dry weather we've been having. I've not had to resort to anything in terms of treating and he's not lost any shoes due to it. Happily have just noticed in last couple of days that feet are growing through OK now without crumbling at edges so hopefully that's it sorted.
