My horses good feet have turned awful over the summer(!)
He was only shod about 2weeks back and already has risen clenches and a slightly loose front shoe. His hoof dosent touch the shoe all round because its so crumbly there are chuncks missing and i know he's not going to make another 4 weeks til the farrier comes, Whats the best and most econimical way of improving hoof quality and growth... a getting a bit concerned.

I swear by aquaeous cream for dry hooves in the summer - its about £1.50 ish from chemist, you have to ask for it, and its mostly water. It works really well, you can see it soaking in if they are really dry. Its brilliant if ned wont stand feet in a bucket of water!

May also be worth a supplement, but by what you have said sounds like they are dry.

xx

Pop him on formula 4 feet or something similar for the next couple of months, rub cornucresine into the coronary band and slather on hoof moist or something similar across the rest of it. Your farrier should be able to advise you further. Good luck - crap feet are no fun

Question is, are your hooves crumbly OR dry? Soft hooves with too much water content tend to crumble and dry hooves tend to crack and fall apart. Most likely it's the second in this weather!

Cornecresine do their original hoof ointment which is great for the coronet band. But they also do a hoof moisturiser which is fantastic. It really is fantastic stuff, and you can see how well it does moisturise the feet. My thoroughbreds feet are doing really well with some of that every day.

They also do a hardener for soft crumbly feet if it is that problem; though I've never tried it.

I swear by kevin bacon's and apply it every night. My Horses feet have been fab all summer. I do use keratex on one that is barefoot and his feet haven't crumbled at all this summer.

I use kevin bacons too and my boys have been problem free this summer, I am looking for someone to trial some hoof supplements and dressings for manage my horse so if anyone is interested please pm me.

Bought some cornucrescine daily moisteriser for dry and brittle hooves recently, it has worked amazingly well.

put some biotion in her food and some lovvet summer gel on them it keeps the hoof at rthe right and corret moisture level both proucts are cheap and do there job and APPLy COD LIVER TO THE FEET ASWELL!
