Crumbly Soles...

sometimes it is caused by a bacterial infection (don't panic, is not a disaster!) so you need to give them a good scrub with something antibacterial - i have known people use diluted household bleach. And if it doesn't work them there's no harm done and you can investigate other causes. Hope this helps.

Pony has laminitis... The sole generally exfoliates at a greater rate in some cases of laminitis, particularly if the laminitis has anything to do with cushing disease or if cushings is suspected..

Other causes may be long periods between farrier visits, cause the sole to build up.

Another cause may be a bacterial infection of the sole which is less likly.

If you get a wire brush (abou 99p from b and q) and brush the sole with this, it should exfoliate away easily to a clean 'waxy sole' If it does this, it is completly normal and do not worry..

Do NOT put bleach on your horses feet.... use either iodine or hibiscrub, bleach and hydrogen peroxide are really for medium to bad cases of thrush...
