Crying puppy...

No idea why anyone would conclude if you don't leave them crying they have issues. Certainly not my experience. I never have & yet every dog I've had has been complimented regularly on its behavior. Just like I didn't accustom my daughter to go to bed & asleep alone with no fuss by leaving her to cry herself to sleep as a baby. I felt guilty just listening to the cat cry on the short journey home when we got her as a kitten.

When we had a new puppy I was determined to 'be strong' and that he would sleep in the kitchen. I was 'strong' for about 10 minutes, then crept downstairs and brought him up to the bedroom. He instantly snuggled down and fell asleep. He slept in my bedroom for every day of his 13.5 year long life and I never regretted 'giving in'. He was a fantastic dog, would do anything for me and always aimed to please. He was healthy until he suffered a severe stroke and I had to have him PTS. I miss him dreadfully and some mornings still take care not to step on him as I get out of bed...I wish he was still sleeping in the bedroom!!

Right... Crate in bedroom. With blanket that had mum and siblings scent on. Hot water bottle at the ready for when we get to bed. OH coming in late so will do midnight toilet run... Will slowly move the crate further away as times passes.... Fingers crossed... I hope tonight will be better and he will be less stressed and upset! Thanks for your support guys... All very helpful xx

Oh and just to add I gave in and went and got him!! Hehe. Once he'd settled in with us he went back downstairs and has been fine ever since :)

He cried! So I moved the crate next to my bed... Then I got him out, let him sleep on the bed with me. OH came home so he went back into crate... Cried quietly for a bit. But with a lot of gentle shhhhing he eventually dropped off. Came to the yard with me this morning and is now passed out in the arms of OH! Thanks for comments, they have really helped. Nice to know I'm not the only one that's caved in!

I can not do another 2am bed time tonight... Please frank... Sleep tonight!
