I sometimes ride my friend's cob and he has always been very well behaved with my even when passing the scary stallion and even managed not to explode when we went past the pig zone at the local farm. However he has consistently played her up and has scared a couple of other people who've ridden him. The contrast is such that it seems like we are talking about a different horse to the one I ride. I've been off with a broken collar bone for six weeks and during this time he's managed to throw my friend a couple of times and has taken to spooking and bucking on every ride so that she is now scared to ride him. Problem we have is identifying why he's good for me but misbehaves for others. My friend is now saying that she does not want to ride him again and wants to wait until I am well enough to take him out a few times and see of I can moderate his behaviour and pinpoint why he's ok with me. However as I am not quite passed to ride yet the risk I take is that although he's never once played me up or bucked with me on board, his recent behaviour towards her is not good so I am concerned that he will now do the same to me. I don't wish to get broken again just yet so I'm in no hurry to get back on board until I'm fully fit.
Is it possible that he will play me up too and what do I do to get him to accept her on his back?
Have other people come across this type of thing?
He's 6 years old and about 15h and had been through five owners before my friend bought him. She's had him about 9 months.
