Would it be ok to use a little cub type saddle pad to back a small round pony? rather than something with a tree?

I know they are fine with small children on them, but what about with someone larger? I am having real difficulty finding a saddle to fit my welshy, and came across a leather pad type saddle on ebay

what do you think?

My kids 11.2 was ridden in a small kids wintec (cub type with handle) by a friend of mine who is 23 (very tiny) for reschooling. The saddle stood up to it all very well and the pony seemed comfortable enough and she schooled and hacked in it no problem.

My friend who is about my height and weight (5ft 7, 9 stone ) has done exactly what you described, using a safari cub saddle to break a 12hh welsh b. works fine for her, no probs at all. She did find it a little tight to ride in (unsuprisingly!) and has changed the stirrups to my webbing ones, which fit this type of saddle much better than leather ones do.
I hope that helps a little

Thorowgoods did use to do two diff sizes of cub saddle, as Ive ridden in one on an overgrown shettie and we used to use a smaller one on a mini. Am sure its ok, long as its not ridden in it for too long, the weight bearing area is quite small unless you put a prolite or similar underneath to disperse pressure?
Am waiting for a felt saddle pad to arrive for a mini I teach!
