ive always thought cub saddles look very uncomfortable for ponies, and if they made a bigger version for horses there would be uproar. is this just me being silly?

I am a little precious about back as my last horse had kissing spines.

they are comfy! i backed a 14.2 xxxw cob in 1, she was just so wide it was the only thing i could think of,i rode her in it for 3 months! ( well walked stoped n trotted ) before we managed to get a saddler out n fit her with a propper saddle, he did have a good laugh, but it did the job, could not even see the litle saddle when my fat bum was on it, talk about pea on a drum!

Depends which 'cub' saddle you're talking about - most people call all the kids synthetic saddles a 'cub' saddle.

The wintec kids saddle is a terrible saddle and as a fixed solid plastic tree and crap panels.

The thorowgood cub saddle is just a simple treeless saddle and is great for the job it's intended for - a saddle for little kids.

Some of the copycat saddles are decent and some are rubbish, with sharp inflexible trees and hard inflexible panels.

If you adjust the panels to suit the pony and use a decent pad under them they're fine - they keep the spine free, they dissapate sharp little seat bones pressure well and they are flexible and soft enough to be comfortable. They aren't suitable for heavier children or adults to ride in as they don't distribute the weight well enough but they aren't intended for that.

We have the kids one for my shetland (which i backed myself) and its a great saddle for ponies like her as its the velcro pannels which is usefull as can be used on all small ponies for children. One complaint is that it dosent stay as secure as i'd like it but nothing my sersingle dosent sort out!
