Can anyone recommend me a good brand of cub saddle, or are they much the same whatever brand?

Also how old were your children when they began riding in one?

I'm looking to get one for a larger miniature Shetland (37", with lots of bone and a longer back), would a 12" be ok?

Thanks in advance

I used the thorowgood cub saddle when my daughter was little. the panels underneath the saddle come off so you can adjust the width. My daughter was about 5 when she started using it but i know other people whose kids were younger than that when they used the same saddle

Mostly rode bareback but did use a thorowgood safari cub on occasion, but treated it as a bareback pad really so daughter was sat right behind handle. Think it was before she was one, & still fitted in it up to last autumn cos we used it to break her pony.12" should be fine for a mini

Have always used felt saddle for the tiny ponies (girths can have tucks put in by a good saddler if needed).
Fine as soon as a child can sit up.
Mine was 'on' at around 7 months for a trip round the paddock most days, competing affiliated LR classes as soon as old enough (3) and also on 1st riddens at 5 - all mostly on felt pads - gave her a damned good seat :D

Have even sent her drag hunting at 10 on a tiddler on a felt pad (I was not in her good books that winter:D ) but the section A had to step in when she broke her B :o
