cubbing? - help needed please for first timer!

ok i`m planning to go cubbing some time hopefully with the Atherstone hunt

however never been before so can someone explain? is there jumping or lots of waiting around etc? any bits of information would be helpful! thanks :grin:

Cubbing is when the young hounds will go out for the first, so generally the pace is slower. You might still get a jump or 2 in and a bit of a gallop, but mostly it is waiting around while hounds work to draw a cover. However given the ban, every hunt works differently but i would still say more sedate than open season.

I'm hoping to try a day with the Atherstone this year. Do you know when they start? I rang one number I was given but the lady wasn't very friendly because I wasn't a subscriber and put me off a bit. I'm kind of nervous about ringing the other number now.

my farrier said the first one was this saturday? not sure thiugh. i did email them but they havent replied so may try the number on the website. is that where you got it from?

Cubbing tends to be a lot of trotting rather than gallop ,canter or jumping, novice riders & the more mature riders find the easiest routes. Younger riders are encouraged to attend cubbing outings, and dress is normally a tweed jacket with pale jodhpurs, however many hunts now accept dark plain riding coats or jackets in poor wether.
