Cubbing / Hound Exercise

Is what used to be cubbing now called Hound exercise?

If so, is it quite slow? My kids age 12 and 9 would like to go. A 13yr old from our yard goes but she goes with an adult friend.

i don't have a horse to use to escort my children, would they be ok on their own if they stuck together? Both ponies are steady and have hunted before with previous owners.

A couple of weeks ago they went on hound exercise organised by the pony club. The master said at the beginning that it was possible to ring up and ask for someone to be an escort. Do you think I should do that?

I have escorted quite a few younger children out cubbing when I had a sane horse to hunt on, didnt do it last year as my horse is a bouncing can on beans!
Usually if you ring up sec prior to meet and tell them you are coming out they should be able to arrange things. In our hunt we always have alternatives to the jumps, you would have to ask if this is the case, back when I was pre teen I just had to jump what the rest did
They should be ok, just ring up and ask first! x

Cubbing is similar to normal hunting (what ever that may be with your hunt) only with the young hounds so its for thier education and can be a bit steadier than normal hunting, but not always. Hound exercise is a hack round with the hounds to get them fit for hunting.

Give your hunt a call, they will probably have a newcomers day that will be ideal for your kids. If they go, make sure they have someone to keep an eye on them because even the steadiest ponies can become little buggers when they get out hunting, even if they have been before!

It all depends on your hunt really so give the secretary a ring and i'm sure they will advise you what to do.

Hope they have a good time!! Its great to see kids out enjoying themselves and I'm sure they wil love it!

Well I spoke to someone on my yard who went this morning, and she has agreed to escort my two girls when she next goes in 2 wks time. My girls are so excited already!
