I have seen a curb chain that attaches to the bit with a squarish hook/ fastener so that it sits flat. I have had a quick google and can't find anything remotely similar, any ideas?

I had them. They look significantly better, but kept falling off and I lost one in the end and gave up!

they were almost like a square carabiner clip. i like the look of those Sprenger ones, but my current issue is loosing the curb chain whilst untacking and getting my tack in the lorry/ tackroom doh!

can you use a lip strap to keep hold of the curb chain?

OP, a correctly fitted curb chain should naturally sit flat and as Milliepops mentions above, a lip strap will prevent it coming off when moving the bridle after working

Pretty much the same as the Sprenger ones in the first link above. Main advantages are the chain won't fall off, and they don't rub.

Depending on what size these are, I got exactly the same thing in my local ag merchants for circa £1 each

How about getting a leather curb strap, sits neater and won't fall off when not in use
